hi folks, Going on a family vacation/fishin trip to ocracoke from sunday til sunday. I'm hauling the Daytripper over the ferry and plan to fish every fishable day while there. I guess I'll keep her at the Visitor Center docks if I can't make other arrangements by then. This is only my second trip up that way and I really don't know my way around except for the bar at Howard's! We fished the Rock Pile area last year with OK results but it was later on in the season and the fishin wasn't all that great. Think we've got it timed a little better this year. My questions are ......
Who (where) has the best ballyhoo?
Where do I fill up (cheapest gas) ?
Does Cingular cell service work over there? If not, what carrier does?
Thanks in advance for the help.
Also, it'd be my pleasure to buy any SFC member a beer!
I haven't spent any time to speak of in Ocoke in a few years, but not much changes on that Island. As far as bait, I assume you're coming in from Cedar Island. I would stop at EJW in MHC and pick up your hoos there to be safe. Tradewinds in Ocoke should be fine though.
Cheapest Gas?--- bend over--- it's an Island. Figure $0.25-$0.35 more than the mainland.
I don't know anything about Cingular Cellular.
Occracoke is a great place to be for Offshore this time of year. You can fish w/ the Morehead fleet or the Hatteras fleet. I love that area to the Southern between the 850 and 950 and it gets very little pressure. Try to get a Sat shot and then determine whether to run up or down the beach each day. If some warm water pushes inside of 30 fathoms I guarandamtee there will be some Wahoos and a Saildog or two around the triple zeros. Gaffers are showing up fair, and the tuna are still around Morehead so your Tuna bite could be very good next week.
The damn Bluefish are thick inshore of the break according to Tradewinds Tackle Shop.
