Yeah, I remember Hatterass. Wasnt it PETER WRIGHT and his crew that came and caught like 17 fish in a day on one boat outa Hatterass? Didnt seem to be to many down around MHC then. Now a days they seem to congregated around MHC with a few around Hatteras. Does that leave the possiility that some may have went further south towards Fryin Pan Shoals in search of food? I guess thats what they are here for? FOOD? Seems to be a Southernly movement more and more each year. Who knows one day they may more of them down here. I gotta agree with Barrett though, fewer boats, but catching Giants. I think the ratio is pretty good. Good Luck to all who search for these fine creatures!

    Hey Barrett,

Well with as bad as things have been in the commercial fisheries here on the East Coast and charters being way down, Im heading back to AK after the BFT season to fish should be back around May, so there will be plenty of more stories..here's a Pic of the boat, the owner had it built in 2003after the F/V Sunrunner was lost.

You know how the BF game is here today gone tomorrow hopefully you guys get your share down that way..

    A couple of points:

Peter Wright and the Chunda crew did 74 giants in a single day chunking off Hatteras not 17. Those numbers are no longer possible due to the declining population of these fish.

Brant and Barret took 3 giants in a single day off Southport two years ago, something very rarely done off Morehead since commercial fishing begun.

Most folks believe that both Cape lookout and Cape Fear fish are the same and movements between locations can be as frequent as daily, as seen in tagging studies. In the absence of a more consistent fishing effort in the Cape Fear region, the question of number of fish per unit effort can only be speculated on, but not answered.

Then again the comparison is really a mute point as there have certainly been less and less fish each successive year. The end of this fishery is near IMO.

There are fish down that way now. There are fish in the 10 mile range off of Wrightsville also. You just have to go get them.

We're going to be another week or so getting the Bail-Out to Morehead due to problem's getting it registered, so I guess we're going to try down this way on our center console on Monday. John, I hope you're right.
