LOL, ok I thought it might get your attention.
I had the pleasure of fishing with Jake (OVERBOARD) today on my boat. We also had his Father Daryl, and his 2 Uncles Pete and Jeff. It was great to have Jake who knows what he is doing helping out in the pit. Between myself and Jake we had baits back out after a strike in just a few seconds. It was great teaming up with him and I hope we can do it again. Jake will make someone a good mate when he retires from the Marine Corps. He has his stuff together as he should, because he has been trained by the BEAST and the BOX.
We left the dock about 4:45. Had lines in the water at 6:50. Started at the SH and made it down past the Scallop beds before we started back up the beach. They stayed in the water untouched till about 11:00. Sloooooooooooooow was the word of the entire fleet. I did not see any other private boats out there all day. We saw some of the MHC Charter fleet out there by us though. We worked down to the southern yesterday. On the way out we saw lots of bait and albacores busting all over. Once we got out to the fishing grounds we did not see any life at all. No weeds, no rips no flyers.
It was the first time for Jakes Father Daryl offshore yesterday. The furthest he had been out before that was 12 miles. I was very anxious to put him on some fish and show him some blue water. Daryl, Jeff and Pete were just amazed at how beautiful the dolphins are when they are all lit up in the water. Everyone but Jeff got to see a good size gaffer come charging in on the left rigger teaser. He came in from the left outside with his top fin completely out of the water and just had his way with the horse ballyhoo on the end of the teaser. After that he went to the flat line and then met the steel. We also had a couple other dolphins come in on the right rigger teaser that me and Pete spotted. They both hit the teaser and then pealed off to our baits. I was just starting to drop back the right short rigger back and 1 jumped on it and Jake got the other on the flat line. They both met the steel.
We ended up with 8 or 9 gaffers (I think). Smallest being about 8 lbs and the biggest being around 22-25 lbs.
Lots of short strikes, lots of drop backs and lots of bent poles only to have them go limp after a few seconds.
It was great having Jake and his family on the boat with me today. They are more than welcome to come back any time they want too.
Thanks guys
