WITH ALL THE REDUCTIONS IN LIMITS, SIZE INCREASES, AND REDUCED SEASONS, I WONDER WHAT WE ARE GOING TO FISH FOR. HERE IN NEW JERSEY, THE LIMITS FOR THE MAJOR FISHERIES HAVE BEEN REDUCED 50 PERCENT OR MORE OVER THE PAST FIVE YEARS. FLUKE(SUMMER FLOUNDER) ALLOWABLE CATCH IS BEING REDUCED AGAIN. WEAKFISH LIMITS HAVE BEEN REDUCED AGAIN. THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT REDUCING THE BLACKFISH LIMIT.SEABASS, PORGIES, LIMITING BROWN SHARKS TO COMMERCIALS ONLY,ETC,ETC. IT IRRITATES THE HELL OUT OF ME WHEN NMFS GIVES THE COMMERCIALS THE REMAIDER OF THE BLUEFISH QUOTA THAT IS LEFT OVER FROM RECREATIONAL ANGLERS--BECAUSE WE PRACTICE CATCH AND RELEASE. THIS IS HAPPENING ALL OVER THE COUNTRY AND IT NEEDS TO BE STOPPED.

WHAT IS NEEDED IS ONE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION COMPRISED OF ALL THE FISHING CLUBS IN THE "SALTWATER STATES". IF YOU DON'T THINK THAT THE CONGRESSMEN AND SENATORS, AND NMFS, IS GOING TO PAY ATTENTION TO A GROUP THAT REPRESENTS OVER 1 MILLION MEMBERS, THEN YOU SHOULD TAKE UP ANOTHER HOBBY. FUNDING IS NO PROBLEM IF EVERY MEMBER CONTRIBUTES JUST $2, WE WILL HAVE A WAR CHEST OF $2 MILLION!! IT WILL NOT TAKE MUCH TO GET THIS OFF THE GROUND. A NATIONAL RECREATIONAL FISHERIES FORUM TO DEVELOP THE ORGANIZATION NEEDS TO BE HELD. CLUB AND ORGANIZATION LEADERS NEED TO LEAVE THIER OWN AGENDAS,EGOS, AND PERSONAL GOALS OUTSIDE THE DOOR AND DO WHATS GOOD FOR THE GROUP BEFORE ITS TOO LATE.

Bubba1, first let me welcome you to the site. This is a wild first post and let me say I am not bashing you here, but I also do not agree with most of what you have stated.

First we already have CCA, about 1 million strong membership...done some good done some bad...but that is all I will say about CCA!...
Next, 2 million is not a drop in the bucket for what you are looking to do. That will be gone in a month or 2...
Finely, what are you- everone going to do when the commercial fishermen are gone...where is your bait going to come from, your flats of bunker, butterfish, Mullet, Ballyhoo, Shrimp and crabs and so on.

We need the commercial guys, don't care what you or anyone else says, we have got to have them. Now as to some of the methods that are used, this is the area that needs or should be looked at.
In NC, we just got a new Recreational saltwater fishing license, roughly all 300,000 of us ( recreational anglers) against about, 15,000 commercial guys. The vote on anything is now way lopsided in favor of the recreational anglers. It will only be a matter of time before NC has no more commercial fishermen and then were are we going to be.

The biggest thing we need is common since regulation from marine fisheries. This is where the make or breaking of our sport will come from. In order to gain this we need the recreational and commercial guys to work together for the good of whole of the fisheries, not to fight each other. We can have a great sustainable fisheries for both parties with proper management. I do feel that we need to get the government or most of it, out of fisheries management. Even CCA needs to step back and think before they act, sometimes they jump in before they think it all out.

Only I wish the fish I buy was caught here rather than some place half way around the world. Yes I belong to several groups and contribute to them. However with all the work they do, all we get is reductions in the allowable catch.
I have been a recreational fisherman for over 55 years and its all I do and look forward to being out on the water. In addition, I was a lobbyist for more than ten years so I have good idea of what works and what it takes to get something done.
By the way, when was the last time you were surveyed by NMFS?
I stand by my opinion that there needs to be a national organization and without it we are in trouble. When you have an agency of the federal government doing what they want, ignoring and not taking into consideration the facts, basing thier decisions on infromation that is not accurate, and the facts and the economic consequenses be dammed, its time to do something about it before its too late.
This country was founded on the priciple of "by the people, for the people and of the people"---NOT over the people.

I, never said you were, but you know know where I stand...

With 3 boats that I run, 2 times this month so far, this summer it ws once a week and sometimes twice...
Now that were on this subject, I feel that the way the data is collected is very flawed. I run 3 different boats, if I run the flats boat on that week that they want the data for the Whaler they have lost the true data for what I did. As a charter Capt. is should be for what my charters caught, not what one of the 3 boats did. Ok this week we caught 10 flounder 26 Red Drum were caught, none kept, and 11 Specks went to the dock...but the Whaler that they want data on never left the dock, so in their eyes I did not catch any fish... don't get me started with this!
