Spines to hurt, and can become infected quite easily, as i so un-lovingly felt last year. one went through my New Balance sneaker, and one to my hand....ouch....

GREAT pic of the boys with a shark! ... a Spiney Dogfish Shark. Look just in front of the dorsal fin, you can see one of the spines... and yes, they HURT LIKE HECK for several days. The other spine is just in front of the back dorsal (or whatever that fin's called).

There's a large commercial fishery for'em here in VA. I've heard tell that they use'em for "Fish-n-chips".
