No offshore yesterday but WHAT a DAY; SPADEFISH

Well still waiting on getting boat back Bombardier is replacing the complete powerhead and dressing, I guess my postings and pics made a difference or could of been the fact I sent them and email letting them know the "BOX" was prepared to video the carnage. So point to my posting my friend Dan from our Sandhills Saltwater Fishing Club called me and asked me if I want to go out fishing on Sat. I said sure, so since we are basically 2-3 hrs from several coastal communities he said we shall head to Little River, SC. We left our houses about 4am, and were out on General Sherman's wreck about 730 about 12 miles out. Dive boat had beat us there. darn we have to deal with them now. LOL
So Dan has sworn I would never believe this until I saw it. Well he was right, what he calls "Baby bluefins or brims on steroids" are actually 5-14 pound spadefish. And I am not talking 1 or 2 I am talking 100s and 100s of them. First hit was within the 1st 15 minutes, Dan wants me to try this, we had all light 10-12lb tackle, holly cow what in the world do I have pulling line at such a hight rate of speed I swear I thought I saw the spool smoke a couple of times. LOL Then finally after few minutes of pressure he surfaces a nice 5-7 lbs spadefish. Wow now that was fun no skunk today, wait what is that shinny image, holly cow there must be 500 followed him up, wham other rod goes off, wham another one, this went on all morning long, I was litteraly tired of catchin spades, then in the mix of all these I see oh yes Mr. Cobia, so I have brought something along just in case I saw him, tossed out and missed him, so I put a half piece of peller crab on my cobia rig. Every time 100s and 100s would follow the caught one up so all u had to do was toss out, no jellyballs could be found so we tried shrimp and it worked.
Well we continued to catch big spade fish, I had a strike on my light tackle, and Dan is fighting one also, when WHAM the cobia rod goes off, it is taking line, trying to get my other rod down to get to it, finally just tighten the drag till I popped the line so I could get over to the cobia rod. Pick it up he is taking line and pops the hook, Dayum missed him. We move a little bit cause the divers are too close when we seem 4-5 cobia in the middle of all of these spade fish. One was atleast 60lbs, so we set up again at this point.
I am now just fishing for cobia cause the spade fish have now become very aggravating, it was like shooting fishin in a barrel, literally, you could have taken the net and dipped them up. Missed sereral cobia shots but plenty of spadefish, excellent time out on the water just buying time until I am at the BIG ROCK with the world class team aboard the RUN OFF. I love offshore fishing but if you want to feel some fun pullage on light tackle I HIGHLY recommend that, it is a ton of fun and we were back at home back 6pm that day. WOW, now how am I going to work all week long, I am a lame duck this week. Going to the BIG SHOW!!!!!!

    Cool beans!

Reports of brown things have been pretty scarce this year so far.

    Never Heard

spadefish referred to as "baby bluefins", but they sure do fight.

We have them up here at the Chesapeake Light Tower now, but the bite just hasn't turned on. It's a parking lot there once it does, and then the bite stops when the jellyfish become available - can't get the spades to bite clam when they are full of jellies.
