NIGHTMARE

Some folks wouldn't post this up but I'm gunna. After all I'm only human and I'm sure you all have your tales of woe very similar so lets hear them. We've been 6 days w/o a sniff so to change our luck it was just Shane and I on the boat, seems that is the best way for us. Typical morning just a little bumpier than it has been, lines in 0600. After about an hour the left long starts bouncing, damn Albacore couldn't pop the rigger. I jump down off the bridge and start cranking. About half way in the line gets real heavy, OHHH NOOOOO! he got in another line. As I get it closer to the boat I see the mess. OOOHH $hit, FU^&(%@ Som^&&ch Go@&M. Not one, or 2 but 3 lines tangled and the long planer. My first mess this year and what a doosey. One good setup left and a planer. Put it in and drag. Don't know if Shane was trying to make me feel better or being the optomist he is, says " Well when we get him on it won't take long to clear the mess any way." I start the painstaking job of trying to separate the planer from the mess, Everything is twisted with braid and mono, I had the longest and prettiest Austrailian braid I've ever seen. With a pair of scissors I set to work. I had to keep telling myself BRAID IS YOUR FRIEND! What a pain in the a$$. About an hour into the chore the one and only line in starts to rip. Let the fire drill begin. Shane was right it didn't take long to clear the mess. Pull up the planer move the rod to the gunnel start cranking. The fish came right to the top. Something isn't right here. I keep the heat on him while Shane gets the poon ready. Shane I got leader, SHane the leader is short SHANE THE FISH IS RIGHT HERE!!!!!! Tail wrapped. Popped up like a cork. About that time the wrap came off, too late for him. Shane grabbed a gaff and stuck it to him. Four minutes from the pull to the deck, at least something has gone right today. We did manage to get one more short pull before we ended the day from hell.

Exactly what happened to us over the holidays when I was down fishing. A real pain but we never got a bite. Did the GBT bite a little better yesterday and has any one fished the East Side of the Shoals. Just wondering. Capt Mark was out on our boat but did not talk to him last night. Still waiting for the report from the Bite Me this morning

Hey John, about 15-20 boats yesterday. Maybe 5 fish hooked. Don't know if anyone fished the east side. I wouldn't think so because the water is so hot over there.

The S2N crew may be on to something here. Just drag a mess of tackle from the stern to tease one to the point where he gives up and just wraps himself.

Makes me start to think 'teaser' on the BFT!! Got me thinking about it anyways. Congrats Shane/Block! I know of of 3 sold yesterday, but seems there's always 1 or 2 you don't hear about.
