    Question night vision monoculars ?

looking to buy a night vision monocular--- mainly for running the duck boat in the dark. Crab pot bouys and stakes paly hell on me in the dark.
Question: is Gen 2 a big improvement over gen 1?--- mainly concerned with range.
Also does 3 x 50 (or there abouts) sound about right?
    Brands?---- models?

    NIGHT VISION

Night vision is some great stuff, alot of fun and really great to have. The higher the generation number the better it is, today it goes to gen/ 4 along with thermal imaging and what not but, the problem is as the gen/ # goes up so does the price. Cabela's sells a real cheap gen/ 2 mono but, you get what you pay for.

If, you really want to know whats what with night vision and some prices here are two good web sites to look at.

    I use Google search/// www.opticsplanet.net/nightvision.html

Come on Glenn....all that crap is highly over-rated. How many dang crabpots they got out in Nov, Dec and Jan anyway? Nightvision....next thing you know you're going to want radar and a bottom machine on your duck boat. Your going to look like a Navy SEAL on a training exercise.

Glen.....don't waste your money on gen 1 or 2..... I would go for gat least Gen 3. I purchased a dual ITT Gen 3 a few years back. I had a booth selling deer feeders at the Buck O Rama deer show in Atlanta. Came up on the ITT booth....I bought a model --- NQ 5001.....ITT manufactures night vision for the goverment. I would not buy any Russian or surplus brans. My set ran about 2900. I had wanted a pair and had researched the net....but they were too expensive. So when I saw the unit with the head gear....for less than 3000, I bought them.

I bought top of the line at that time that was avaiable to the public.....not sure if they would be that useful dogging crab pots.

Aren't we the comedian tonight? How many pots you ask??--- an ass load, all winter. Actually, they are eel pots and they are thick as a Tangier string on the leeward side of a hard blow all winter.
As far as hi-tech toys go, you gotta lotta room to talk Mr. Orvis poster child---- ya look like you're competing for a spot on GQ and in the Cabella's catalog at the same time while sitting in the blind as us po folks shiver in our Army field jackets.

As far as other hi tech navigation stuff, I don't use a GPS to follow my tracks in and out of the creeks and marshes, cause I don't need any evidence on where I've been

Jim, thanks for the info. I ain't got 3 grand for this toy. I'll just keep it low and slow for that price. My budget is $1k

Glenn call Victor at this site he is very highly regarded in the NVD industry. He will take the time to talk you through it.You realy need a gen 3 unit like a pvs14.For movement or navigation you dont want any magnification it will screw you up.

    Glenn,

That nightvision was great last year for shooting canvasbacks at dusk.
