    New Specie for MM

Headed downeast friday and as we had a wedding saturday we headed out for a short trip for a new specie we hadn't mastered yet... The boy a caught the first spades last week and I asked them what they needed to make me catch my first!!!! 6 or 8 lbs test and the smallest hooks was what I had to bring....
Dropped Wendy, Marc and Claire at the Cape and headed a few miles out with my Folks, Patrick and Austin.
As we approached Patrick was the Jelly spotter while Austin stood ready with the dip net waiting for the signal....
The little jellyfish were 3 or 4 feet deep and he'd make a quick fix of it!

We anchored on the spot and waiting for those fish to show up. 6lbs test, 8 crappie hook and a piece of jellyfish. Doesn't get more simple!
It was quite windy and the fish moved around but the first 3 came of all being taken by sharks or pulling off...
I had my try and hooked one! it was too big so made it to the boat even though a shark went after it.
I was even Excited.......... We had never targeted this specie often saw them but never had the right stuff!
    It came together mission accomplished....

Austin ended up with the nicest while Patrick and my dad worked on the triggers....

You never know what will bite your hook!

Out for 4 short hours but the plan worked with10 spades quite a few missed and a lot of fun with $25.00 light bass combo rods...

We use Chowder Clams for spades up here in Va. They are on the top of my list of "GOOD EATIN" fish! Nice catch.

Those spades are quite a blast on light tackle!

String a few up on the downrigger, drop them to the bottom as your anchored on a wreck and crank them slowly back to the top. Let the string of jellies dangle off the side of the boat and you can catch them all day long. The spades will follow the string up nibbling on it as you go.

They eat pretty darn good too....

Pretty cool. Had heard about the jellyfish for bait, but never tried it. Have a spot that holds some 10#-15# spades with lock jaw and headed that way with my brother some time back. Had some larger jellies ready but got side tracked with AJ's and sharks, never dropping the line in. We were going to use the little red circle hooks with a chunk. We have hooked mahi, king mack, amberjack, amlaco jack, cobia, dif sharks, and sea bass seeing the spades on all but a few trips showing no love to our bait. Great info and how to pics, thanks again for another MM report.

Very cool Jacques, glad your plan came together. What's best you had a specific target fish, and got it.

I knew it!!!!!!! I just knew the MM slayers could not go to the coast without wreaking havoc on the bottom dwellers in some way. Jacques your other post was just a ruse to fool the fish once again. Congrats on the spades.

Healthy population, excellent light tackle fight and very good eating! The spadefish sounds like the ideal fish for the M&M crew to really specialize on leaving groupers, snappers, dolphins and wahoos to the rest of us........

No chance of that happening of course!

Well done boys! Keep on learning and teaching your father!

Very cool Jacques! We saw huge schools of Spades with Jackie when we stopped at one of the wrecks on the way in from the rock. They are gorgeous in the water.

Doesnt surprise me that you figured out how to get 'em!

    Hope to see you soon.
