New Mono Dilemma
How do you tell if new mono is new, prior to purchasing?
Several years ago I took my reels to a local tackle shop and had them spooled with 50lb. trilene big game. Under the worst scenario possible the line parted. Once home it tested well below breaking strength.
This year re-spooled with 40lb. Momoi Diamond on the tld 25's. Bought the spool instead of having it done at a tackle shop. Upon spooling the first tld, I tied a palomar knot to the snap swivel. Lightly gripped the tag end with my teeth, pulled swivel to tighten. Cut thru the end of mono with teeth. Thinking that to be strange I tested the mono.....broke at 24 and 28lbs.
The spools, their boxes have no markings as to when manufactured or purchased. So if any of you folks have some advice, I need it. Also, be aware.

Banned Camp - I am on PROBATION!!
Well if you got momoi then it should not be breaking at 50 percent.

SEEMS LIKE THERE SHOULD BE A BORN ON DATE ON MONO JUST LIKE BEER....BUT EVEN BEFORE BORN ON DATE WAS CONCEIVED ....THE WORLD STILL DRANK THE BEER....
I HAVE FOUND IN MOST OF MY "MAINLINE " ISSUES HAVE COME FROM ....DINGS..DEBRIS IN THE WATER...OR JUST PLAIN OL WHATEVER CAUSED THAT TO BREAK
........MOST OF THE TIME SOME ANGLER ERROR OR EQUIPMENT SETUP WOULD BE THE CAUSE OF LINE FAILURE
DRAG CREATED BY A LARGE BOW IN THE MAINLINE FIGHTING A FISH CAN BREAK THE SMALL DIAMETERS....
I RESPOOL MY REELS LIKE MOST PEOPLE DRINK BEER AS WELL....THAT 'D BE VERY OFTEN
TLD25---30 POUND LINE
TLD 50...50-60 POUND LINE
