NEED SOME OBX ADVISE...
I got a friend with a big house up north of corolla on the 4wd access and we are thinking about going down in april... not sure if i am going to charter or just tow my boat down and drop it in near oregon inlet or maybe hatteras for a day or so.
this is going to be sometime in april and i am just not sure what is going on that time of year and what i can really do around april.. it is a 24ft cc with twin 150 mercs.. it doesnt burn to much fuel and has a range of about hmmmmmm.. dont even know but should be able to get me like 60 miles off on a decent day running at high speeds. lol i got all the gear and such and just not sure what to do and if it is even cost effective to do this myself.. i know a lot of guys i would completely love ot charter but i am only by myself and my friends who are coming down will not fish.. any insight from all my southern boys and from the el boxo would be great!! thanks in advance guys.. vinnie |

Give me a call when you get down here, or anytime....If you bring your boat, I'll ride out with you or you can just hop on with me!!!!! Weather (wind) is the biggest issue in April. Seems like the wind blows just about everyday. Maybe we can even talk Marty into coming up to No Man's Land

Leave your boat in Jersey in April. Chances of a weather window for a 24 CC is slim that time of year.

I have gone to Corolla every year for the past 6 years, I thought about bringing the boat the past 3, but have decided against it. Maybe if you stayed in the area around OI, it would be worth it, but to haul the boat 8-9 hours, find a secure place to store it - I wouldn't recommend hauling that on the 4x4 beach, just for a day or 2 on the water... doesn't make sense. I'm sure there are lot of guys on this site that will be able to set up for a day or so on the water...
Just my $.02... hope you have great time. You may find a striper or 2 in surf before they start heading north... |

Bring a John Boat or Duck Boat. You are asking for trouble in a twin OB 24, unless you knew your way around. Any fishing on the inside from up in Corolla will be best done from a small boat. You will be better off getting a local to take you fishing on the inside down there. Even if you don't run aground, chances of finding fish without knowing where to look are slim to none...Chances of doing it in a 24 are even worse. I am not trying to bust your bubble, I am trying to save you some headaches. Holwachagot |
