    need some help. trout fishing...

I havnt fished a trout stream since I was maybe 7 yrs old...

I was taking a drive near my hunting property in buchanan va. when I ventured up jennings creek.

Looks to me like it holds some sweet little holes that I would like to try out later this week. I dont own a single piece of fresh water tackle! I have it all in the saltwater dept. from 2500 class spinning reels to 10wt fly rods to tiagra 50 wides

what do I need to produce a stringer??

    basics that produce.

    Thanks,
    Taylor

Light line, 10lb or less. Rooster tails or small spoons produce for me on conventional tackle. Powerbait nibbles can destroy them at times. Normally I'm fly fishing and this time of year the dry bite is over so nymphs under a stimulator or large cadis is what I'm fishing.

Use the lightest bass tackle you have if nothing else.

SW VA! Looked at the VDGIF web site and Jennnings is not listed on the stocking schedule but may have some natives. Check regulations before keeping any trout. We have had success with the Trout Magnet that can be purchased in Walmart or most any other sporting goods store. Its a little gold jig head with a grub, either gold or white is oyr best bet. Your 2500 will be perfect, if it has braid just add some 4#-6# fluorocarbon leader and same if heavy mono. If baits can be used, Berkley Power Bait in gold, pink and chartreuse, meal worms and minnows. If they don't bite work with the bait until they do. As for trout on the fly 3-6 weight rigged with 5X tippet using pheasant tail, prince, hairs ear and zug bug nymphs size #12-#18.

50 Wides? Haven't found a need for them this far inland... let me know when you do...

We will be fishing the Damascus streams Wednesday-Saturday of Thanksgiving week. If our regular spots don't produce, may venture into Smyth Co. just north of Marion looking for new waters.

We'll be looking for reports and making ours, good or bad. Good Luck!!! Netman

Correction: I was thinking Buchanan County, Jennings is on the stocking schedule and was stocked Oct. 4. Looks like 3 other nearby streams as well. Recommend the same techniques!
