Need Help with a pair of Glasses

Ok guys, I need to buy a new pair of polarized sunglasses. My existing pair has become crappy. Ok, they never were any good b/c the lenses were only covered with the polarizing material. I am in a pickle in that I have to have prescription glasses. The one thing that I have noticed is that when buying polarized prescription glasses the polarization sucks. Can anyone provide me a name and number of someone who can make me a pair of real good polarized prescription lenses. I am in North Carolina. Before I was blind I liked the Maui Jims.

Easy one....Coasta Del Mar. Most glasses places should be able to help you, if not just call coasta, you might be able to send them your prescrition.

I had a pair of Ocean Waves for 11 years, not one problem. Now I have to get prescription lenses. I went with costas because every eye glass place here carries them. 5 days after getting them, the lense pops out. I took them back to the glasses store and they put it back in for me. The next day it fell out again. So now they have to send them back to Costa for a new lense.

Anyway, after talking with 2 different eye doctors (both family friends) they said Ocean Waves, Costa, and Maui Jim are all head and shoulders above anyone else in polarized sunglasses.

    Manufacturer's Rep.
Although I may be a little biased on this subject since I'm a rep. for them, but Costa Del Mar is definately the way to go. By far the best quality lenses on the market, and not to mention a 100% LIFETIME warranty against manufacturer's defects. If you have any specific questions about them, I'd be more than happy to help you out---just send me a pm or reply on here. As Sea Draggin mentioned, most optomitrists carry Costa prescription lenses, however there is a search engine on the Costa site (www.costadelmar.com) where you can find all the retailers around you that carry them.

Personally, I like Maui Jim's and have compared the MJ's to Costa's and feel the MJ's have better lenses. Much of this is personal preference but I have also talked to a couple of optomitrist friends and they steered me towards Maui Jim's as well. Either way, you should be able to get either from many optomitrists with prescription lenses.

I have gone through several to find polarized, progressive bifocals and for me the Maui Jim's did it. I find that I have to go with progressive bifocal as hard lines can create sea sickness. I'm not knocking the CD's because I didn't own them but the MJ's just worked really good and never compd my ability to read or see my nav units even with a pretty severe degree of darkness in the lenses. If you don't need to go with bi or tri focals I think you have all the options wide open.

    Good luck

Try An optical Galleria in centreville, md. They can fit you in Rx. sunglasses in Costas, WileyX Triton and a bunch of other frames. Bob is a optician and fisherman so he know what it is you are looking for. He will do mail order

    Costa

Costa Del Mar in perscription progressive bifocals have been the ticket for me. I needed something extra for being able to tie on hooks and rigs. Now I can see and have the shade too. They ain't cheap, but they are good. The progressive lens take a little getting use to if you haven't had them before. The more curve to lens, the more difficult it will be to focus with a percription.
One other note, the mirrowed finish is not a durable as far as anti-scratch as the non-mirrow finish.

Where in NC are you? If you are anywhere New Bern I will be more than happy to help you out. A cool new lens to think about(not Costa or Maui) is called the Drivewear. It is a polarized photochromic(transition) and after wearing a pair of them for the past 2 weeks I can tell you that the clarity is awesome(I usually wear Costa Del Mar 580's) and they will allow you to wear them from before sunrise right up until dark. Not yet available in multifocal prescription but will be soon I'm sure.

Make sure you are clear about wanting quality lenses in the frame that you choose. Maui Jim has their own lab and do a great job on prescription but there is quite a turn around time usually and NO warranty. Costa's have authorized labs and the work we get is always good. Let me know if I can answer any questions or make a recommendation on who to see depending on where you are in NC.
