    Necessary cockpit items

Ok guys I am just starting out fishing in the ocean with my dad and brother. Anyway I need to know some necessary items needed. What hook sizes for ballyhoo. Weights? Crimps? Other items that would be needed for most trolling trips. I really need to know the size hooks for ballyhoo and models that would work the best. Any other items you guys could think of would be greatly appreciated.

Remember .... Keep it simple!!! Its easy to get wrapped up in spending all this money on the latest and greatest lures, leaders, rods, reels, pliers, crimpers, hooks, blah blah blah but what you realize when you get out there is that it is the simple stuff that YOU are compfortable with that you will be most successful with.

Second all that advice; AllTackle is a good business. Send a message to Keith Fraser; the guy that runs alltackle, he's on the board, (alltackle) I bet he would meet you over at the shop and give you the run down on the necessities, or set you up with one of the guys there to give you a hand picking out what you need. I would trust them not to over sell you.

Also agree with keeping it simple, either buy some pin rigs from Alltackle or learn to make them and get some baitmasters ballyhoo from alltackle and get started rigging with pins. Much easier then the wire method.

You don't need half the crap that is out there for sale to get started, better to start with less then see what you really need, I know from experience in getting into this sport I bought everything with some flash on it, now I have boxes of crap I don't and will never use, I have boxes and boxes of 20$ lures, 100$ spreader bars, 50$ daisy chains, birds etc. but run 90% 2$ seawitches over ballyhoo on home made pin rigs...
