Wx has not been kind but we have managed a couple of days. Tuesday was the girls day out to fish just off the beach for blues and macks, seas were 2-4's steep and close with an E wind. Made one attempt to head out and turned back after a 3 minute beating. How proud was I to have K's friend Liz out to enjoy the day with her 13 yearold son Kevin. She has been around fishing all her life but today was not the same. Got so busy she had to help, running the boat, reeling, hand lining, removing fish from spoons and releasing blues. The best part of the day was when Mrs. "Woop Woop" Liz said "I GET IT! I finally see why people love to fish, getting the high from all the excitement". Pretty cool stuff as she repeated her saying on Facebook for her friends to enjoy.

Wednesday was the only chance to get out for something different and Gus and Daniel were on board for a first time saltwater outing so we filled the live well with blues and headed to the fish haven. No one home, screen showed no life and our live blues could swim the 80' water top to bottom without worries. The air was very clear and the Tower looked very close so we headed in that direction, met another boat heading in, I said thats not a good sign at 8:00 for him to be leaving that soon. Arrive and the AJ's show themselves but have tight lips, had a barracuda slash the heavy leader cutting it with just a slight bump to the rod. A few minutes go buy when a school of 50-75 kings come by skying and crushing bait on the surface leaving after 2-3 minutes of excitement with no takers. So far no fish landed other than the blues but the sights were incredible.

My plan for this week was to explore the water for some mahi so when the kings came through I put out Pirate Plugs with cigar minnows. On to troll for maybe 5 minutes heading W back to the AR 145 and I decide I need to switch the rods, pick up the long line and start to reel in at a fast pace when an unidentified fish jumps heading toward my lure. Fish On! Gus grab this, as I'm thinking a little tuna and to my surprise he brings a mahi to the boat. We regroup, bump the speed up and manage two more losing one at the boat. Had 5 or 6 hit the rods trashing the baits keeping the level of energy up for the boys that were up for the 6 AM departure. Not bad for an hour and a half E to W troll instead of just motoring back considering I wasn't very prepared with the rods using 2 king rods with 600 Tekota's that are used for blues and the other 2 were Torium 30's on jigging rods with braid. The camera only made it out for a few quick shots and Shawn did a great job with the pictures showing the rewards of Nolans hard work helping his guest and running "THE PIT".
