    NATURE TRIVIA Q@A

So I'm sitting in the living room watching some TV enjoying my Taco soup with the Ms's and out the corner of my eye I can see this bird swoop in and start jacking away at my tree...I grab my spyknoculars and get a eye full...I've seen some pretty big woodpeckers back in Pa. but nothing like the size of this one.

Has anyone seen this type of pecker before and if so what is the name of this beautiful creature... I'm pretty sure he can get it done when it comes to drilling...while watching this guy he carved a hole in my pine tree about the size of a golf ball in 3 minutes..... I tried to get a quick video but some dam seagulls flew in and he was out.

    Here are some pics.

It looks like a female Ivory-billed woodpecker to me.

this is my guess as well, looks a to be a young one though, a smaller Pileated than what i have normally seen in the woods. but definitely a female bird.

It is actually the least common (and the biggest) of the local Woodpeckers

Inserting story here. This wood pecker only about 40 years or so would only eat or was the mainstay diet of a certain kind of bug that lived in trees over a 100 years old. They were almost extinct and changed their diet to eat other things and now are quite common as well as the largest of the woodpeckers even though not as common as all the other types of woodpeckers...quite the come back story...
