Fished Monday in the Wilmington, had 2 Mahi in the box and practically ran over a white sunning himself. Jake (Overboard) and Rick (Baywolf) in the pit had an awesome spread out. The bite was on at 2-330 PM, we were heading west and water getting warmer, I turned and headed back to cooler water and as soon as we hit the west wall Rick worked hard to get the first one hooked, brought it in the boat, close but not quite big enough to bring back to the scale...release at 3:12 PM.
We layed Tuesday, went out Day 2 Wednesday and headed to the Baltimore. Worked the tip marking bait, started heading southeast and marked bait, I yelled down to Jake we are marking bait and bam we have one on, Rick reeled this one in and got the release. We still had 2 hours to go, but only picked up another mahi.
Final day we head to the deep, 1000 + fathoms; with a grander blue on the board and a 92 lb white we were looking for something big....so were 75 other boats working the same area. Found bait deep, started working that area hoping the Detroits would bring them up, after working that area for an hour, the Detroits did just that, a few minutes after I went over the bait, the Sea Splender followed and got 2 hook-ups.....well it is better a friend got the fish (I guess).
Overall, we had a fun tournament. Thanks to Rich who owns the boat, Jake and Rick for working the pit, Terry Jr., Terry Sr. and Rob. Everyone took on a role and worked together as a team.
It was good seeing Admin and he and his team did an awesome job bringing the action to everyones screen. Always good seeing old friends and making new ones.
I'll let Jake disclose his secrets (if he chooses). I will say a certain neighbors Squids worked well and holy "guacamole".
We'll get um next year.........Trojan.
