Naked ballyhoo?

I was wondering what the thoughts were on rigging the nakeds. Can you rig them using the conventional 7691 pin rig using monel or when people refer to a naked ballyhoo is it always a dink hook? What other ways are there to rig em naked? I've done both and caught fish both ways, I've only caught dolphin and a few kings on the 7691 hook, just wondering if it was the wrong way to do it if targeting say billfish. Will a wahoo crush a naked? Sorry for all the questions but I figured I'd ask. Thanks

My favorite is the necked split bill you cant beat it.And yes whoo will eat it but use wire or you will be taking a chance.

Naked aren't just for dink hooks and circles. 7691's as you mentioned are fine for mono rigs. If you want to split bill them then your limited in your size of mono, but there's nothing wrong with one back there on your long rigger rigged just to frap away on top by wrapping the monel straight down the bill vs. splitting it. 7731DA's and a piece of 9 wire is the heat though! 7/0 or 8/0 if your using mediums. Hard to get one to swim any prettier than one on these rigs! Anything will eat these, and I do mean anything!

Use them all the time on the shotgun. 80# floro with a wire trace around the hook, can't count how many Wahoos have come to the gaff from this one as well as countless other fish...

If you are rigging dinks with j hooks try a 9174 short shank.

Yes, wired to the hook with monel. I prefer rigging them as split bills though...

The real key here is that your bait size dictates leader hook and weight size for all rigging.
