My father had the same type of blockage and the same type of surgery at 71. While not routine surgery, everything went great and within 2 days after surgery he was irritable as hell and ready to get out of the hospital. He now feels better than he has the last 10 years. I wish you the best and my prayers are with your dad, you and the family. He is in good hands I am sure.
Finesse, keep the faith. My mother-in law is 88 and had double heart valve replacement last summer. She is doing find and healthy as an ox. She had a young new doctor at the heart center at Cooper medical center in Camden NJ. Prayers.
The fact that he has had lots of vim and vigor until a few months ago will work greatly in his favor. Our thoughts and prayers to you and him and your family.
Thank you for all the positive and encouraging comments. I will certainly keep everyone informed. My guess is that I will not hear much till later this afternoon or evening. We had planned on being with him but my wife got pulled into some important client meeting today. As my Mom said there is nothing we can do at this point ...just hard not being there.

He is going to look bad right after surgery. Lots of machines hooked up and tubes draining for him. But it will get better real quick once he wakes up and starts giving the nurses a piece of his mind. Try not to make him laugh for a while. Chest will be real sore. Hang in there. Most of the cardiac groups do as many as 5 of these procedures in a day here in NC. Sometimes 1500 a year. Modern medicine can do great things.
