    MY PRE-INTERNET WAHOO RIG

Before I ever set my paws on a keyboard to venture into the fine world of internet fishing tips...This is how I would tooth proof, or attempt to, a rig for ballyhoo/witch combos. I was cleaning out the fish room today and came across this old contraption in the mix of things. I think the O-SEA-D toothproof trick is so much easier it is ridiculous. Nevertheless, this style may spur some interesting feedback. Maybe it still has some merit for short striking critters? Any thoughts from the gallery? Bash away!

Looks to me like its still easy to get cut off. If the Hoo strikes forward of the hair, he gets a mouth full of mono and goodbye he goes!

The whole ballyhoo set back behind the witch a little which I guess was the idea behind that rig. It was shown to me by a Pirate's Cove mate who shall remain nameless. But, I have seen the light nowadays. O-SEA-D's way is much better in my opinion. Wait till you see some of the other things that are collecting dust around here. My homeade bowling pin teasers from 1997 are real pretty.

It just seems a little ass backwards i made a rig kinda like that a while back that worked it had no chin weight and the Red and Black islander was inbetween the swivel and the hook. Worked decent though (and no sharp ends) damn thing attracted and caught everything on da planer!!!!

good idea for sure, but I would run the wire trace and swivel ahead of the witch and use a longshank hook. with the swivel behind the baithead, it seems the ballyhoo would be a bit too far behind it, IMO. also having the short trace and swivel ahead of the witch would act as a stopper and keep nearby wahoo from getting frisky and hitting the witch when its trailing behind the hooked 'hoo

    Geoff,
I actually used a rig very similar to this in years past and it worked very well. I actually made my front haywire (the one on the swivel) so that it all but touches the egg sinker. This put the swivel on the bill of the ballyhoo and the skirt set right (or very close to right on the rig). I haven't used it in several years but damn if it didn't work like a champ when I used it.

I use to do the same thing. Only a smaller swivel. Asked Marty about it a few days after Brian and him took 2nd in the Ducks. his answer "I never want a swivel out in front and within fish eye site of the bait."
