Looking forward to this volume. Based on your slogan regarding ATF, I assume you are a staunch proponent of our independence from England. Hope you enjoy a little celebration on the 4th.
From July 1st until today there hasn't been much going on down here lately. Just been kicking back and watching the wind blow. However, the bonefishing is still red hot. You can go out and catch a dozen in less than an hour now. And there are some big fish too, I lost one yesterday at the boat on a piece of shrimp that was a solid 10 - 12lbs.
Oh well, in my spare time I've been trying new things on the flats.
Caught a barracuda the other day and butterflied it out for sharks. Anchored on the flats with Chef Josh and his friend hillary to see what we could muster up. Ended up with 2 big nurse sharks, but none of the big bulls or lemons I was looking for. When I'm bonefishing they're cruising around....when I chum for them they're no where to be found.Go figure. Other than that, just been sitting on the beach relaxing when I have free time waiting for the wind to let me back offshore.
The past couple of days finally gave us a shot at doing some fishing. The wind finally died down thank god. provo was beginning to be too much fun.Anyways, we had a group come and look at property from Canada. They had never fished beofre in their lives. I took them on a 30 minute reef fishing trip and we stayed hooked up the whole time. Never even put the anchor out. We trolled glass minnow jigs over the reefs and caught false albacore, yellowtails, and a small grouper. The clients daughter got her first fish and loved every minute of it. Today I had the Elfmans out bluewater fishing and we did pretty good for a short trip. We caught numerous small blackfins, but only got a few to the boat due to the sharks. However, Danny Elfman got his largest fish ever today. He caught a 58lb. wahoo on a homemade lure. It whooped him good, but I think he's hooked for life now. We're a little slow right now, but I hope I get more trips soon.
Not everything here is all about fishing. I did an Out Island Trip with the Elfman family today. This is where we go to one of the uninhabited islands near us and do some snorkeling, hiking, and our naturalist does a nature tour. It sounds boring to most fishermen like me, but it's actually pretty cool. You're actually exploring an island that has seen very, very few humans and is just like nature intended. Tons of little mangroves, etc. holding lots of fish also.
Beautiful pictures captain John. Exploring that sort of place could never be boring.
A topwater plug tight on those mangroves could spark some fireworks, me thinks.
Keep the awesome reporting coming!
