Raw conch won't hurt you. It makes great ceviche.

    Hi John,
I'm vacationing at Turks in October and I realize that you have mentioned that you work in a members only club or something along those lines. I'd be interested in doing some fishing down there but not into chartering a whole boat due to the cost. Any suggestions for me, should I bring a rod/reel setup and just do it or do you know any way that or someone that could help out? BTW I'm going to be at Proviencialis at the Beaches with my wife and daughter.

You can bring your own rod/reel, but make sure you get a visitors license for the islands. www.environment.tc is where you can get info. Also be prepared to pay a duty fee of 10% of what the cost of your fishing tackle is to bring it in the Country. I would suggest chartering a local guy to do some fishing. It doesn't have to be offshore or anything. There's good bonefishing and reef fishing right now and through Oct. Hell, maybe a certain member here will take ya for some beers and gas money if he can get free time away from his new home (hint hint....Gringo...hint hint).

Well Golly thanks for the info on the license, seems like it's happening everywhere. I appreciate the offer and will let you know when I get closer, how would I get a hold of ya once I'm down there. I would love to do some bone fishing even though I never did it. Sounds like chartering is the way to go what does the going rate go for to get a charter and if I charter do I still need a visitors license? Reread that last part and that sounds like a deal!

Sorry for the million questions! Just a little excited!

BTW the wife and I love to venture out on the islands away from the resorts and find local foods any suggestions. When we were on Jamaica we found out what real Jerk Chicken tasted like!

Just hang around Blue Hills. You'll find everything you need as far as food goes. The Conch Shack is a little touristy, but the food is good and they get the conch right out of the water as you order. Ask for a place called "Hole in the Wall". It's about 2 minutes from the airport. Good local food. I eat there everytime I'm in Provo. New menu everyday and hope they have the Oxtails.
