My little "ISLAND" in this "WORLD" Vol. 1

Well after talking it over with Gottafly Lee and Marty, we figured it would be a good idea for me to start up a thread of life here on Ambergris Cay(pronounced key). So I figure the best way to start would be a photo tour so to speak of the island. So here goes....to start out if anyone doesn't know, I came here to run fishing trips out of Turks and Caicos Sporting Club here on Ambergris Cay last month. So far....so good at the moment. It's a beautiful place with great fishing, awesome snorkeling, and good people. Here's just a few pics from around the island.

The nature here is awesome also. More iguanas than every exotic pet shop on the East coast, and lots of curly tail lizards. They're pretty cool and fast as hell.
As far as the local shrubs.....DON'T FALL DOWN!!! Vicious sandspurs, cactus, and even these half tree..half cactus things. I'll get a name later. If you're gonna go barefoot, you damn well better be on a sandy beach or you're in trouble here. You'll notice the cactus with the round tops. Those are "Turks Head Cactus" only found in the T&C.

Being that we're on a little private island, they do a good job at keeping us happy and sane at the same time. We all have nice little apartments,3 meals a day,tax free salary(for Americans),full medical insurance, all clothing supplied, etc. You couldn't ask for better. I've been here for almost a month now and I haven't spent one penny yet. As long as we don't have clients, we can fly over to Provo on the company plane and get away also. This place is till under construction and was only started a few years ago. It's kind of like a giant construction site in a tropical paradise so to speak. There's construction workeers from all over here. The home builders are chinese and a lot of the maintenance guys are from local islands. Then you have a bunch of the supervisors, electrical, and utilities guys from all over Canada, and the U.S. The construction workers etc. have to stay in small trailers sleeping around 10 or so to a trailer in bunks. I'm glad I don't have to do that. They all work for different companies and are only here until a job is done. I work for the club so I get club housing. THANK GOD!! Here's a few pics of my room, the construction dorms, the runway, the kitchen, and just most of the area that keeps the island moving. I even threw in some pics of our temporary fire station ,my island chariot, and our excercise room.

Since the marina is a couple of years away, we're using a temporary channel and jetty to get in and out of our little docks. Once the marina channel is dug we can purchase larger boats and we'll have a marked channel and deeper water. Right now our fishing/snorkeling fleet consists of shallow draft Catamarans and flats boats. We need these to navigate the endless reefs and coral heads all around us. I just found out recently that this is the third largest reef in the world in this area. When the marina is done, it's gonna be sweet. Here's some pics of our facilities for the fishing guides. We have a cargo container at the docks that we keep tackle, supplies, etc. and an office to keep everything else and make our schedules.

Unfortunately, being so close to Haiti and the DR, we get floating trash in the section of the island that the wind comes from in that direction.

But on a lighter note, I found a spot that made for a good homemade Corona advertisement. What do you guys think?
