MY FOGGIN CAMERA...

has me frustrated. I have a spot on the lense that will not clean off. It is a small spot that appears black when the sun is bright. Clean it of you say...It is on the inside of the lense. The camera is waterproof to 33 feet but I have never put it under water. I assume the spot is a result of condensation on the inside of the lense. Camera is an Olympus Stylus 770. I am not getting anywhere fast with Olympus so I figured a post here might get some answers to what I should do. Should I try to take it apart? Should I send it to Olympus?

Gringo or Shoefish, any problems with yours like this?

Any suggestions from anyone. A nicer camera is not an option right now. I have to make this one work.

Man that sucks. I haven't had a problem with it, and I've dunked it and dropped it a bunch of times.

Is there a camera repair shop around there? Maybe they would have some suggestions?

Not so fast Box

Our underwater camera leaked and Gringo saved it.

He says: Open all possible covers, lids, etc and remove batteries and memory card. Open it as much as possible. Then Gringo put it in the oven on the lowest temperature possible (170 I think). He baked it for an hour or slightly more with the oven door cracked open. Closed all the hatches while it was still hot. Put it in a ziploc with some silica gel packets, remove as much air as possible and seal. Let it cool sealed inside the ziploc (better use freezer bags!). Once it's cooled off, you'll have to open the hatches on the camera through the ziploc so that the first puff of air that goes in there is nice and dry.

And he's still using it!! We don't take it underwater anymore but have taken hundreds of photos since then.

He also says that if you don't want to bake it - put it in a ziploc with the silica gel with it opened up and hope for the best.

I've done the oven trick with cell phones with good success. I like the idea with the ziploc bag and the silica gel pack. That makes a lot of sense. I'll have to try that the next time my phone goes under.
I have the same camera and haven't had this problem - yet...

Good luck.

I know you have just gone through a trying time with all the storms and stuff but couldn't you find something else to eat other than your camera?

Strangely enough, we have had little or no appetite through this thing. They tell ya to stock up all this food and we just looked at it. From time to time we'd eat just because logic dictated it.

Things are getting back to normal though. We are back home with power. The internet is working. And we're just taking one thing at a time around here based on priority. Nice to be home tho.

(Sorry for thread hijack!!)

It sounds as if condensation left a mineral deposit on the inside of the lens I think you need to take it to a camera shop and let them sort it out. If there is still moisture present try the oven method. I had a spot like that on a lens and they had to open up the lens and clean it.
