MORE BONITOS, SPANISH, COBIA, OH MY!!

Had a trip today with Billy(Ice Cream man) , Paul (Aquaman), and Mark(Fishstalker). Sounds like a weird group of superheroes huh. Anyways, Billy was ready for round two and wanted to see if he could get his boat bloody and the coolers full. Well, we accomplished that and then some. We put in at 6:00 a.m. and by 8:30 we had our limit of 60 spanish and decided to go look for the bonitos. I had an idea of a spot and tried to sneak away form the group of boats starting to gather on the usual spots. Made it out to where I wanted to be and we instantly hooked up to our first bonito of the day. We picked at them for a while until a few boats saw us bowed up on fish and decided to come do some "RUN AND GUN" fishing around us and pushed them down. Anyways, the spanish then took over the show. We had bonitos busting all around us on baitballs, but the spanish were faster and hit the lures before the bonitos had a chance. We caught one bonito on a jig and all the rest were on Yo-zuri DD's. Now the spanish ate anything in their path today and there were some really nice fish in the pack. The highlight of the trip was when we had a 20lb. cobia come up and try and eat a hooked spanish we had beside the boat. In all the excitement of people trying to grab something to throw to him, we missed a chance at the fish. i should've just freegaffed him and been done with it. Oh well, at least we know there's one around. It was like a scene from National Geographic out there today. Giant balls of bait on the surface getting destroyed by all types of fish. We kept releasing fish since we had all we needed until we were actually tired of catching fish. I can honestly say that we had to catch well over 150 fish today and possibly more. Oh yeah, we were back to the dock by 11:15. Just in time to hit Riverview Cafe for a good lunch. Today was a great day on the water.
Unfortunately, I believe this is the end of the road for the bonitos. They seem to be pushing offshore more and more each day. Tomorrow I'm off to the stream to fish for the big boys and maybe do some bottom dropping along the way. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

    AquaMan vs IceCreamMan

This is going to be a blood match, with One Rule - put him on fish.......
See if he, AquaMan, in his clean white long sleeve t-shirt, can handle the rigors of hardcore fishing.......
To see if he, AquaMan will fold to the speed & power of The BonitO or the cunning & cutting teeth of The Spanish.........

AquaMan recently back from his 7 tour of duty in Iraq is ready for anything, but is he ready for what's to come ?????.......

AquaMan's first mistake was accepting The ICM's offer to fish........
His second mistake was to have Capt. John Mallette as his coach....

While the ICM teamed up with none other then ( drum roll please ) Fish Talker Mark - known for his lightning fast reflexes, penetrating wit, his endless trash talking..........
And his supply of chocolate covered espression beans - just the fuel the shy, quite & introverted ICM needed to get on Capt John's last nerve........
The ICM knew it was working because Capt. John offered to throw him off his own boat ...... several times.

We launched at 6 & by 9 we had over 60 - that's right! 60 of the large variety of Spanish - no dinks - no undersized fish - quality Spanish only applied..........

He, the AquaMan also managed to land most of the 8 BonitOs - both on jigs & Yozuri DD's - we only fished 2 DD to make it an even playing field for those fish.......

Before it was all over by 11 am, the AquaMan's white shirt was turned grey with dried blood ........
We had busted off the hinges on the 165 quart cooler & have caught 8 BonitO & close to a 150 Spanish - but only kept our limit ..........

Thanks Capt John for giving a returning vet an incredible day to remember..........
Thanks to FishTalker Mark for keeping the trash talking going .........
And thank you, AquaMan ( Paul ) ...... ICM
