More Bad News For Us Bottom Lovers!!!

NOAA Fisheries Service filed and will publish a final rule implementing interim measures to reduce overfishing of red snapper in the South Atlantic. The final rule will publish in the Federal Register on December 4, 2009, and becomes effective January 4, 2010. The interim rule will be effective until June 2, 2010, and could be extended for another 186-day period.
The final rule establishes a prohibition on recreational and commercial harvest of red snapper for 180 days in federal waters off Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. However, provisions specified in the interim rule would also apply to a person on board a vessel for which a federal commercial or charter/headboat permit for the South Atlantic snapper-grouper fishery has been issued, regardless of whether the fish are harvested or possessed in state or federal waters.

Slowly but surely it will be harder for Rec guys to practice their favorite hobby and Commercial guys to make ends meet...
Doesn't seem that just a catch and release policy would help much more the already hurting charter industry either.
This will trickle down to the hotels, restaurants, tackle shops, marinas, boat builders, grocery stores and on and on....
Who knows, maybe there will be so much protection in a few years that we'll be able to catch them from the beach.

In addition to the obvious, something else that has me worried is the fact that there will be more pressure on our other fisheries, ie kings, spanish, dolphin, etc. Most of our trolling species are currently listed as viable; how long do you think that will last with the extra effort from both the recreational and commercial sectors on these fish. I don't think the idiot's with the Pew commision and NOAA(aren't they all but one and the same now?) will stop until ALL of our fisheries are shut down.

SADLY FOR ME, I WILL PROBABLY BE LONG GONE FROM MOTHER EARTH WHEN IT HAPPENS....BUT TRUST ME....THE TAKING OF ANY FISH FROM THE OCEAN IS ABOUT TO COME TO AND END IN THE UNITED STATES.

    MORE CRAP LEGISLATION....

A whole team of legal begals couldn't keep up with the legislation being shoved up our collective asses. I am just about cured of reading the regs...
I think my time would be better spent researching bandannas and false bottom fish box designs.
I've said it before....the government will make us all outlaws before long.
