    and more....winter project

    Here’s the gunnel rodholder “heavyup”
    Lee backing plates.
    6 'holders 3 nuts & bolts each....half hour.....
The 'holders pictured are the smaller of two sizes
used on GW boats. My boat uses the larger the fit is worse!!
This like most projects got off to a screeching halt!!
GW uses Perko rodholders…super wide flange at top!!
Now back to plasma cutter..w/ the plates..
Hopefully then tighten 3 nuts each ….yea right….
    Nuthing’s that easy onna boat…

I NEVER UNDERSTOOD WHY ROD HOLDER HOLES NEVER LINE UP WITH BACKING PLATES

BETTER YET!!! WHY DO ROD HOLDERS....REGARDLESS OF BRAND NAME....HAVE SUCH A SMALL FLANGE FACE? ....BUILD A REAL FLANGE PLATE ON THE THING WILL YA!!!!!

IF THE GUY WHO DESIGNED THE THING HAD TO INSTALL EVERY SINGLE ONE IN THE WORLD ...HE WOULD QUICKLY GO BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD......AND PUT A REEL FLANGED OUT PLATE ON IT!!!...WHY NOT MAKE THE TOPSIDE FLANGE WITH AN EIGHT INCH DIAMENTER? EIGHT SEEMS FINE TO ME!!!

PALEEEESE....BUILD ONE THAT DOES NOT REQUIRE YOU TO REMOVE THREE LAYERS OF KNUCKLE HIDE WHILE TIGHTENING THE NUT.....ONE THAT GIVES YOU ROOM TO GET A RATCHET WRENCH IN PLACE!

THERE IS ALWAYS THE ONE BOLT THAT INSTALLS EASY....THEN THE OTHER TWO ARE SO DARNED CLOSE TO THE "HOLDER SHAFT" THAT THE SOCKET WILL NOT FIT!!!!

THE THINGS I WISH TO DO TO THE MAN WHO DESIGNS THESE HOLDERS!!!!!!!!

I think the problem here is that most of these rod holders were designed to be screwed in not through bolted. I was shocked to find that my grady and other small boats I have been on have the holders screwed down with 1/4"X2" wood screws not through bolted. The heavy duty ones I installed recently lined up good with the backing plates and gave me plenty of room to work.

I had to do some coverboard sanding last spring and was amazed at the fact that the boat only had them screwed in and not throughbolted. Larger size custom boat too not gonna give up any names hopefully the previous owner did it and not the builder.

Same problem with Parker! Saving pennies... They have their Parker rod holders made in China and no backing plates so you need to modify the Lee's.
I would talk highly of the Lee's pivoting holders...

The next bite on a jig.
Pretty sure the guys at Seawater have or can order two different kinds of backing plates, depending on the holder you have.
