    Mono Line Life Span?

So I have an 80w spooled with 80lbs mono from last Dec. It's only been on the water once and in my bonus room the rest of the time.

Will this line still work for GBFT season this year or should I change it out? I have to order some line for a couple other reels so I'd like to order it all at once if I'm going to need to change it out.

    Thanks,
    Tim

Something like Sufix, Hi Seas or Ande you should be fine. Fancy stuff like diamond... Well... Might consider changing it.

What kills line is UV light or salt left on it... Inside your out of the elements...

Guess I did forget to mention that! It's Ande line. Glad to see it should be ok. That stuff adds up quick! Wish I throw braid on there but it's just so damn expensive!

You already know the answer to your question...Maybe...Maybe is not good enough when you finally get that bite you want after freezing your ass off for a couple days...or weeks. Re-spool it.
And if you do re-spool it. Put 500 yards of braid underneath....then re-spooling your mono will be much less painful...good news is the braid will last a decent while underneath.
I am also a big Ande fan.

Well I understand where you are coming from with most places nowadays around NC going from .03 a yard to .06 a yard. Bulk spools are the answer saving you lots of cash changing out 1x at either the beginning or end of every season

I think that's the route I'm going to take. I have three 50w and the 80w to do so I'll just go ahead and by a huge ol' spool.

I may back it with a bit of braid, see how the price lays out. Have that big trip to Hatteras coming up so I need to watch my dimes and nickels!

    Thanks again,
    Tim

I agree with the others... if its been out of the sunlight, and only used once, it will be fine. Theres always the "maybe could happens" out there, but one trip, with no nicks on the line is still good line in my book.

Either way, good luck to ya.

Ok, here is a tip for you when you reline your reels yourself...

Take a 5 gallon bucket and remove the handle. Take a arrow of wood dowel and drill a hole to fit the arrow or dowel. Slid your spool of line onto the arrow or dowel and fill the bucket with water. Run the mono through the rod guides, attach to reel and wined. Keep water running in the bucket at all times. I like to "wet" the big reels, it keeps the line from heating up and lays nicely on the reel.

I feel when people have line failures, some times it comes from the person that puts the line on the reel by "heating" it up, trying to keep enough pressure on the line when packing the reel. The "bucket" method keeps this from happing...
    MirrOlure when big fish count!
