Mobile FAD
its late, or early which ever way you look at it. but here are a few numbers im crunching rite now...
the price of natural gas is $6 per 1000 cu. ft.
this field (atlas) produces 1 billion cu. ft. of gas per day.
we burnt off 45 million cu. ft. in 12 hrs while flow-testing.
which means that the total output for the section of pipe underneath me (8800ft) in a 24hr period is a little better than 45 million cu. ft.
final cost of the repair- $63 million originally budgeted for $21 million.
in fishing news, we are moving over to mississippi canyon again sometime in the middle of next week. ill post up our position soon as we get there. for those fishing thunderhorse and enterprise, we will be the next drillship to the south east of them. approx 100nm from venice.

Thought I read where you said you were stuck on a rig, maybe I read it wrong...
Not sure about the time, but it was that way all day yesterday. I see you and I are being night owls...

I just noticed the time.
As for the night owl/rig thing, I am sitting at work, catching up on yesterdays events.

I think Admin is going to let me have this space
I must have missed an earlier post. What was the repair you guys needed to do?
Also, how often do you move that thing? Do the wells dry up and you move, or does a permanent rig take your place?
curiosity...good luck at the new lat / lon.

Gas wells are extremely hard to predict total size. This well (many wells make up a field) is several years old. It was a world record for a while as the deepest well drilled (we are in 8800ft, there is approx 26k ft below that if I remember the record correctly.
The Thunderhorse platform sits on one of the largest gas fields in the Gulf/North America.
This field pumps to a tension leg platform called the Independence Hub. Which is a world record for depth of water for a tension leg platform (6000+ft). The GBFT spawn around these parts. That hog caught during the Orange Beach tourney last year came from a spot very close to here.
We just make the holes. We dont mess with it once its drilled, unless something breaks. If that happens, we come back, latch on, and then do whatever to make it work. Sorta.

Well 'Box, what you wanna hear about?
I put up few pictures in the Meltons forum of us burning money a few nights ago...
We got some different operations coming up here.
Right now I have a senior tool pusher (drilling department) yelling over my head at the senior dp operator (marine department) about how wind effects the motion of our ship.
Some time today, we should start disconnecting from the subsea equipment. Then over the next 24-48hrs, we will begin to pull 8800ft of riser and stack off the bottom. I dont remember how much weight it is, but its a bunch. Once we stack all of that on here, someone is gonna let me drive this thing over to the new location.
Once we get our computers all set up and we are not moving, the drillers will put down somewhere in excess of 14000ft of pipe in 6000 ft of water to spud in the new hole. At that point, I should be somewhere fishing in the Keys with a few SF.com'ers.
Out here they will run the riser and stack. Once all thats done, we start drilling the new hole.
By the time I get back to work, I should only have to worry about keeping the lights on and making sure we dont move.
