    Mississippi River Redfish

Finally!!! A weekend that is not 40 degrees and blowing 20kts, made my way down to the camp about 7 o'clock Friday and planned a work/fishing weekend. It had been about 2 months since my last fishing report, so I needed to get out of the house and wet a line. Woke up about 8 on Saturady and changed the lower unit oil on the Suzuki and then changed the foot pedal on the trolling motor and then resecured the center console on one side to make it more stable. Chores were done and I had the itch to go fishing. Along for the ride we had me, Frank, and Tyler! It was time to check out some new fishing holes. Miss river is still at 13ft and has the normal haunts muddied up so we decieded to go North. Almost to Delacroix but stoped short and found clean water and fish! Nothing is more productive than a back end canal with the wind blowing all sorts of bait down against the bank. The key was fresh market bait, popping corks and the trusted charteuse sparkle beetle. From 12 o'clock til 3:30 we caught 67 reds 4 trout and 2 drum. Not bad for the first time back on the water in 2 months.

Day 2 rolled around and we lost one guy to some sort of illness. We had breakfast and got to the launch at 9 o'clock and the fog was on the river. No problem just dodge the big oil tankers coming thru. Wanted to see if the fish would cooperate for another day and luck had it and we caught another 60 reds, alot of puppy drum and no trout. So as I type here this morning I think to myself can life get any better?

Here are a few shots of the fish from day one. I knew I should have taken my video camera!
