    Mighty Mite Anchor.........

Any one use one? How much & size chain for a 22' Cat? Also is it true that you don't need as much anchor line because your more vertical with more chain? Thanks........ICM

if im not mistaken, that is a wreck anchor. you will frustrate yourself to no end trying to anchor properly on a ledge with that thing. Biscuit carries one on his boat as a back up. we had to use it once this summer after trashing the regular anchor. it was a tough day. stick with a traditional danforth with a lot of heavy chain. and you WILL destroy one of those every now and then.....we corkscrewed one yesterday.

also, an anchor ball is a life saver.

I am on my fourth one. They are the cat's meow for anchoring over the boulder piles arond the islands and pilons on the cbbt. I have found that chain causes me to hang the anchor sometimes and have gone to tying straight to the anchor and slipping a piece of hose over the end of the rope to keep the chafing down. I think the bottom structure is quite different(and deeper) around the ledges you are trying to fish. The mighty mite will probably hang fine on the Groupers front door...which is not what you want...seems the Biscoto didn't like it when the anchor had to cross the dining room table. For this reason I believe the Danforth, Chain, Anchor ball set up would be much more beneficial for you. Correct me if I am wrong Matt or Nick, but I think hanging the Anchor in the Muck above the ledges is the goal.

Yes they are GREAT wreck/reef anchors but they say you can pull them out Becaust the ends will straighten out, my theory on that HA! they should have had their R and D dept check with me first. BECAUSE If you are looking for a 16lber I have one that if you can get it unstuck it is hanging on the General Sherman Reef out of Little River, SC I will give the coordinates for it. LOL After 30 minutes I backing moving and pulling she was all wrapped up, either that or the spade fish were so thick you could not pull it past them.
You can make one out of rebar much cheaper if you are looking for a reef anchor. The mighty mite is not an easy anchor to store out of the way either. It works GREAT of reefs but any where else it is not real good. Stick with danforth.

Icm, If your looking to ancor on the ledges...and I think you are, then what you want is a Danforth, "High Tensile" This is one of the good things you pay for. Worth there weight in gold and you will feel like its gold whrn you by it. It will last longer, grab quicker and come off the bottom better ( when useing an ancor ball) than a regular ancor.

All above advice is correct. Traditional 11 lb galvanized Danforth with 10 - 20 feet of chain should be just right for your 22, ICM. I've been using a high dollar aluminum one lately. Lighter and grabs good. So far releases fine too. the "anchor boys" are much happier with the lighter load.
I carry the mighty mite, but don't use it, as I rarely fish wrecks.
