    MHC Wknd. report

Got down to MHC Fri.night, got all my baits ready to go and boat rigged up to get and early start Sat.morn for and offshore run,for some meat in the box.Well that didn't quite happen cleared the inlet early Sat.am only to be greeted by a very stiff East wind and some nasty chop, and in a small boat that makes for a very long wet ride.So after getting soaking ass wet about 2 miles into the trip I turned the WETSPOT around and heded in to get the flounder and spainish gear.Got the boat unloaded/loaded back up,quickly found some live bait and headed around inshore, only to find no flounder. Finally decided to find the spanish, and quickly did on the beach, loaded up on quite afew quickly and called it a day. While loading the boat Jake(overboard) and Jim(Seadraggin),were heading out for spanish so I gave them the scoop and off they went and they easily caught there share of macks.Jake wanted to go offshore on Sun.so my buddy and myself went off with Jake to find some meat, left early sun morn to a slick ocean and headed across the shoals, and fished in 30-45 fathoms and found a very nice weedline and some rips and ended up catching some dolphin anything from slingers to gaffers. The action wasn't on fire but we picked em off all day. Had a great time learned a few new tricks from Jake and was back in Greensboro by 10:30,with some meat in the box.

I was right there with you Alan. We opted to turn around and save the gas in my tank for next week. I think I burned 8 gallons inshore fishing

Sounds like ya'll got some fish on Sunday though. It is always a pleasure to fish with Jake. Such prowess in the cockpit....the man is on fire!

Heck,he made me run the cockpit all day. Giving me some tips and tricks along the way, which was very helpful info,as I develop my offshore killing skills even more.

A heavy 235, 24 degrees of deadrise with a monster beam helps a little too
Dang if your ride doesn't raise the fish.

Yep your right..she does get the job done..sometime I think a tad too heavy as it is a little wet plowing

Went back after them Sunday and found these guys out around 125 fathoms

    [IMG][/IMG]

Big fish was pushing fifty pounds..picture doesn't do it justice..my personal best dolphin..the guy with me who is from Illinois wanted to gaff the fish which he had never done.. after a twenty five minute battle I finally get it to the boat and he sticks it in the head goes to lift it in the boat and it tears through, falls back in the water with the line wrapped around the gaff..how it stayed on I'm not sure..another 100 yards of line peel off the reel and we finally get in in the boat for good ten minutes later.

Two very nice days on the water with a great friend
