    MHC Offshore Report - 8/8

If any of you were out there, you know how gorgeous of a day Saturday was! A buddy of mine wanted to let his new fiance catch her first billfish, so I was happy to give them a ride to the deep on such a fine day.

I thought the best bet would be to fish up the beach a little, so we started around the NE corner and fished our way up. We worked it hard from 70-150 fathoms all the way up to the 800 line. There were a few sailfish being caught around us, but we had no such luck. I heard one other boat say they missed a blue in the spread, and one boat who fought one for about 20 minutes and pulled the hook. The water out there was HOT!

We gave up in the afternoon and moved inshore a bit to about 30 fathoms and the wahoo bite was on fire! If it weren't for short strikes, sliced leaders, aerial attacks where they missed and sent the bait flying through the air, and everything else that could've possibly gone wrong, we would've had a box full. Luckily we were able to let her catch her first wahoo. She was VERY excited!

    Until next time....

That was a pretty day wasnt it! We had a sail first thing in the am about 35fathoms around the 680. Might have been us you heard on the blue one, it just layed there lit up next to the left teaser for a minute, tried the right short rigger once and was gone...we worked that spot for about an hour or so around the 720/100fth got the bridge pole knocked down 2-3 times but never got bit or saw the fish..went back in the shallow in the afternoon and whacked the wahoo pretty good. Too bad we cant get more weather days like that one, just about right!!

    Pretty work on your Wahoo!!

I bet it was you we heard. That sounds like the exact story and location I heard on the radio. That would've made for a nice day, for sure! I did hear of one other boat that hooked & fought one for 20 minutes. Pretty work to you too... Looks like this coming weekend might be just as nice!

Good looking wahoo and angler. Saturday was one of those rear, calm and comfortable summer days and although the morning's fishing was slow for most boats, fishing the afternoon seemed to make up for it nicely.
    Congratulations on your catch.

One of the most amazing days I have ever seen on the water. Gorgeous. I was scoping out some inshore spots for our Sunday trip and raised a sail about two miles off the beach Totally caught me off guard and missed the drop back. He windshield wiped for about 10 seconds on a pink skirted bally and the just slowly showed his sail and tail and leisurely swam away. I saw another one jump out of the water about 6 times no more than three miles off. Good stuff.

Biscoto ... tried to get you and Jackie on the hailer a few times but you must have been way off. Hope you guys did well.
