    MHC Marine Growth Season...

Boat is still in MHC and will be until May sometime. We were supposed to be in the yard in Wanchese starting Feb. 1 for a warranty gel coat/paint job but Viking backed out on their obligation at the last minute so we're still floating. My question is, when does the bottom growth really start to take off in MHC? I'm on the second season of bottom paint with only a smile touch up last spring. Wondering if I can wait to haul when I get back north or I should do it there? Also any recs on a local detailer since we pretty much let the exterior go in anticipation of the gel coat getting ground off and repainted?

    Marty?? Brad??

    Thanks,
    Mike

Capt. Mike, I would think that you should be ok. Here in NC we will set some growth all year but current it the worst for us, as more current, more growth, hard and soft. If needed, just get a diver to give you a scrub befor you leave. A lot of boats here are on a monthly clean with a diver.
As for a detailer. PM Surfer Girl, she in in the area and is good...

MIKE....RIGHT NOW, YOU ARE STILL GOOD.....FOR I ACTUALLY LOOKED AT YOUR WATERLINE YESTERDAY WHILE I WAS CHECKIN ON THE "TIGER SIX" JUST PAST YOU

NOW FOR THE HEAD SUP.....LAST NIGHT.... A THUNDER/LIGHTNING STORM HIT THE AREA ......SHE WAS AN ALNIGHTER.....MEANING....SHE IS NOW BLOWING SOUTHERLY...WARM AIR AND WARM AIR MEANS WARMER WATER WHICH IS ALWAYS FOLLWED BY THE UNDERWATER RAINFOREST THAT WILL ATTACH TO YOU HULL BOTTOM BY MARCH 1

I HAVE USED "R&R" DIVE SERVICE FOR YEARS TO CLEAN MY HULLS....FAST AND RELIABLE....RIGHT DOWN TO ZINCS IF YOU NEED THEM

we are at MCYB and we "WERE" using R&R to do our hull, that is until we we hauled for the storm in September and found she wouldn't even turn up!! I had barnacles the entire length of the hull and completely covering my props/shafts/rudders, an oyster bed inside each trim tab well so bad they would not move and burned 1 ram up, and only about a quarter sized pc of zinc left on 1 rudder (my 2 shaft zincs and other rudder zinc were completely gone!!!!!!). We paid them to look at it every month and take care of everything. When I called him to inquire why, he said it was my fault because we did not run it as much in August!!!!

I am at the marina most days and watch several of these guys work. The guy I use now only does a very few boats a day - R&R will do 15 or so per guy per day - do the math, thats just a few minutes for each boat, not near enough to do the job properly. After asking around, I found I was not the only one with this problem from that provider.

not arguing with you BOX, just stating my experience. If you guys need a good diver at a reasonable price call me and I will pass his info along

Just based on my experience last year, I can tell you that you might want to plan on having a diver check your hull before heading north. We were in Morehead April, May, and June. The boat sat for 3 weeks in June cause the weather was nasty, and when we left for home we couldn't even make 15 knots (normally we cruise at 20). In fact, at first I think we were doing 11-12 knots, it was bad. Had a diver clean the hull at OI, he said it was loaded. We had almost zero growth in April and May, so hopefully you won't have too much of a problem.
