    MHC August 1 - August 7 - Just a little different

We took some time off last week and headed down to MHC, as some good friends and their kids were staying in Atlantic Beach for the week. It turned into a Discovery Channel week

Started out clamming on Sunday - in about 2 hours we were able to gather enough for the grill, some chowder and some clam sauce for pasta.

If you've never tried clams on the grill, it is a treat not to be missed. Simply place the purged clams on the hot grill until they open. Baste the meat with some butter, worchestershire and minced garlic. Leave them on the grill until the edges start to brown... MMMMMM

Tuesday looked like a decent day to get the kids out along the beach for spanish - right now they are thick and easy to pickup from 25 - 50 ft of water with spoons on planers and boone birds... The kids are much more fond of Catching than fishing

Wed looked to be ok weatherwise, so we decided to push off towards the Rise - never quite made it there - the seas were a little tight for my crew, so we wound up at Big10/Little 10.
We got a little action with a small mahi, 4 False albacore, a stinky and finally a king that bit us off. I was hoping that we might cross a sail, but it didn't happen. The cool part of the day was when Flipper and 20 of his closest friends decided to shadow us. There were 2 calves in the pod - pretty cool watching the mothers herding them. What was cool to me was the dolphin that took a liking to my chains and dredge - they would swim up from behind upside down and just camp out below the teasers - everytime they did that we got a hookup of one sort or another.

Thursday night was another Discovery Channel moment - a loggerhead Turtle nest was hatching on AB. Got a brief video of 2 of the little buggers Michael Phelpsing into the water...

Friday saw the kids wanting to chase spanish again - these are now brined, vacuum sealed and waiting to be rigged

Neat stuff there Fred sounds like a nice week away from the hustle and bustle up here and you got to fish. Guess your confidence in your teasers just went up a notch!
