MHC 8/2 a little Hoo action

This report is a little late and I’ll try to keep it short it’s been a pretty busy week for me.

On Monday I finally had a weather window that matched a free day for me, for some reason it seems pretty rare for me this year. Anyway I got up with my buddy Doug and his son RJ and we decided to go give the hoos a shot. It was about this time last year when we started catching them and I’d been hearing of a few being caught.

We pushed out bright and early a little short of where I wanted to put out the meat spread we high speed trolled with no bites. Got to the area I wanted to pull the meat and put it out (25 fathoms 83 degrees) we kept the nose pointed out and about an hour later we picked up our first hoo. We marked the spot and circled around and picked up 2 more in pretty short order with a couple of short strikes. Then nothing all our bites came in a 45 minute period in less than ½ mile from our first bite. We never did see anything with a pointy nose in our spread; we fished 25-55 fathoms 83-84 degree water.

At the end of the day we where near a couple of my deep drop spots and we picked up a couple of grouper and lost a couple more, we also got to fight a couple of reef donkeys for good measure.

It was very nice to be back out on the water it had been a month other than the Barta trip since I had been out. We did see the Black boat early on I think they were headed a little deeper and I think they had a pretty good day out deep.

Another great day on the water with friends and a little meat as icing on the cake.

This trip also produced a good “clueless” subject that I will post soon.
