WELL THE WEATHER GODS ARE FROWING ON US RIGHT NOW SW 20-25 IN TOWN TODAY...THE WIND IS COOKING......WITH THE BERMUDA HIGH LOCKED IN PLACE AND A STRONG SW FLOW THE NEXT WEEK LOOKED UNFISHABLE FOR US IN THE LITLE RIG....

SO ABOUT 12NOON I CALLED MY BUD AND HE SAID IT'S GONNA BE SPORTY AINT IT? I SAID YEA BUT NOT AS BAD AS TOMORROW WILL BE....
SO 1PM WE EASED OUT OF THE SLIP AND PUNCHED IN SOME EASTERLY NUMBERS MADE THE SLOT AND WERE FISHING BY 215 OR SO....

BOTTOM FISHING WAS THE PLAN BUT WITH THE WIND AND SEAS WHAT THEY WERE WE ONLY BOUNCED FOR ABOUT AN HOUR. CAUGHT A COUPLE NICE BLACK BASS, COUPLE NICE BLINERS AND ONE BIG GROUPER BITE BUT PULLED THE HOOKS AND GOT NO LOVE FROM MR. GROUPER. SO WITH THE HOMEWARD HEADING NOT LOOKING VERY PRETTY WE SET OUT SOME ARTIFICIALS LOOKIN FOR THE DOLPHIN BITE..AND TROLL A BIT UP WIND TO MAKE AN EASYER RIDE HOME

I DIDN'T MAKE IT BUT ABOUT .5 OF A MILE AND BAM! GOT HIM ON...LITTLE SLINGER.....THEN ABOUT 20 OF HIS FRIENDS SHOW UP WE MAKE SURE HE IS HOOKED GOOD AND PROCEEDE TO BAIL LIKE HELL FOR ABOUT 20 MIN...FINALY TALLY WAS 12 BIALERS AND ONE GAFFER.....15LB OR SO ALL WERE CAUGHT ON LIGHT TACKLE AND WE HAD A BLAST...

Chris, i keep a shimano 6500 baitrunner on an ugly stick at the ready for bailers (i will not fish without this setup ever again...and when i mean have it ready have it ready....any time wased rigging=less fish in the boat...as soon as we hooked the first fish on the troll i grabbed for this set up
50braid for main line going to 50lb mono with a 1/4oz chin weight slid down about 3 feet and hammerd to hold it in place as for the hook it is a gamagatzu 7/0 thin wire hook it really don't matter too much on the hook i just like a thin wire hook a nice chunk of squid and the hook is all but hidden..mostyl when bailing mahi you are fishing cane pole style hook and sling in the boat....my drag was almost locked down....now if you see a bigger fish you have to adjust.....

Always nice to get out on the water during the week away from the crowds even if was a lil bumpy. Nice job on your bailers. The bottom fish will be there next time for ya.
