    MHC 1/14 and 1/15 Fishing

Fished offshore Thurs and Fri out of MHC looking for some meat and maybe a lost sail. Had a great crowd of Greensboro fire fighters and pretty sure everyone had a big time.

Thursdays fishing was good with a couple of decent mid to upper 20lb wahoos, 4 blackfin tuna that were a nice class, a skipjack or two and a few albacore bites here and there. Fishing all ballyhoo, no high speed stuff. We were fishing the break from about the 480 up to the NE corner of the rock. Water temps ranged from 68.5 to 71.5 in a very long and gradual change.

Fridays fishing was pretty much world class wahoo fishing. Started the day around the 440 inside the break around 35 fathoms and worked down the beach and towards the break looking for the hot water we had seen on the sat shot. Caught a nice ~50lb wahoo inside the break early morning and continue the search. Mid morning around the 390's we could see what looked like a nice change offshore of the break and trolled out to find a real pretty spot. Upwellings, 2.5-3.0 degree change within 100-200 yards pushing up the beach in about 68-70 fathoms. The temp break was working east to west and intersects the break right dead on the 380 around the Wall area. Place was covered up in bait and skipjacks! I am certainly no expert, but I have spent a couple thousand hours out there and dont recall ever seeing free jumping wahoos like we did this day! Didnt have the video camera out there, but we did get some pics back at the dock. Ended the day with 2 hoos just over 70lb, 2 hoos over 60lb (on a hand held scale) and didnt put the other 2 on a scale but they appeared to both be close to citation size.

To top it all off......it was beatiful weather!! Gotta love NC fishing!! ENJOY!
