With the strong winds on Saturday we thought we'd give the cobias a shot at the Cape. Found some bait quite quickly and after a bit of yelling... the boys manged a couple good scoops of pogies!!!
Set lines in among 20 other boats not quite our type of fishing but perfect water temp.around 72F. No cobia for us. We saw one Grady get one in 4 hours...
BUT... a bit of fresh pogie chum in the water and the choppers balled up on the boat and for over an hour the kids probably landed over 40 choppers. Ended playing with the bass rod giving the fish a better chance they had a blast.
Sunday we headed offshore. After the Knuckle we followed the waves ending NE of the Rock and put lines in 30 Fathoms. Before the last rod was in the Mahi's started a ballet that lasted with non stop action from 9.00 to 11.00...
Had a little break so we put a planer out and that rod fired right back on... I had a hell of a bad headache so I went for a nap and it was constant.... FISH ON! I'd lift my head up, ask need me? No answer... go back to sleep!
Stopped to check the bottom situation but it wasn't too much of a hot bite. Scratched a few bottom dwellers and never managed to get one of those cobes to bite!...
This sure is Mahi week and all the boats seemed to stay busy
A little slide show resumes the weekend...
