Well this weekend was about bringing some SFC virtual friends for the first time together on the water. We had the honor of having the visit of Holwachagot and 6 year old Jackson downeast for a couple days of fun fishing!
They managed to find our place at 2.00 Friday morning and had to get up at 5.30....
With a nice forecast we headed out for the BR at sunrise
As we came through the inlet a ball of pogies were waiting and even though Geoff threw what he called a Taco we needed 3 pair of hands to lift the catch!
Headed out with a slickcam ocean, just a little too slick for good trolling action. A couple boats had been around for a while without a bite and it didn't take long to try the bottom.
A few good marks, no wind no current but the fish just didn't seem hungry. Water was deep and Jackson was eager to fish, not easy when you're 6 years old dropping a bait over 300 Ft...
With the help of Dad he brought up his first Almaco
Had a small shark try a new yoga position and was very calm this way!...
Brought a couple deep water critters with a hake type with a little different coloration...
A few scamps came up none with broomtail status but they'd eat good, then one good pudding head made the mistake of having a mid morning snack!
We went back on pulling baits as we were out for wahoos. Within 10 minute the planner rod went wobble wobble and Goeff handled the situation just right...
Got a few more bites that didn't stick but the WB took off and Geoff wacked that for the box too!
A small front was starting to show up on the horizon and it was time to quickly give the bottom a last try... As the wind was picking up we saw the Black boat go by. Capt B was nice to indicate that the wind would be picking up and we got the message and headed home with a bumpy ride! Not once did Jackson complain you are one tough fella Big Boy!
Stopped on the way home for one last try but scratch only a donkey & a cuda...
Not the best fishing but we had a great time and did the swim thing at the cape... Geoff and Jacky didn't jump in the water and like kids went on fishing!!!!
Saturday morning we had a "relaxed start" and were going to concentrate on having the kids fish the bottom so we did not plan to go deep. Headed east only to find 40+ boats king mackerel fishing around our first planned stop! We didn't last long there as we couldn't get a bite and headed out a little further.
Not much apart the sand tigers were hungry and we had to do the AJ thing to play some!
It was time to get something to eat as the gags would not decide to bite!
Headed in to the trigger hole and the big and small kids put it to them...
Small boys love to play with small fish. Jackson come back for this one in 3 years....
We only scratched one keeper gag out of the whole day but we sure had a fun day with lots of laughter and it was great to meet some new friends.
Holwachagot would do a good roofer as he spread these fish out for his buddy Seabiscuit!
We look forward to seeing you guys again, Geoff you are raising one fine boy and great fisherman. Jackson I love your curiosity and will to go anywhere. In 10 years you will almost be Jacky's age.... That will come real fast! Now don't follow his example of staying bare foot and just wear those boots!!!
MM
Excellent report MM, that is a nice bunch of triggers! Any idea what that orange fish is? I have heard them called squirrel fish, they have some nasty spikes on the back, are the good to eat???
