    Merry Marlin Memorial Weekend report

This weekend was one of those rare moments when nature offers us something that even creates some controversy among us humans on this site....
When everything lines up right and somewhere on this planet the water is perfect and in the previous months not to many predators had Mahi on the menu, swarms of those Golden Green fish show up like here in between 15 and 30 Fathoms....
So to save the baby crabs, puffer fish, baby turtles, squid and any other babies that seek protection in the Sargassum, humans rush to their rescue on expensive boats...

They put whatever they have in the water to collect some food while having fun slaughtering these tasty eating machines that grow into a "Gaffer" Size within a few months. These colorful fish reproduce wherever they swim and even eat their young. Isn't that a good enough reason to save the babies!
Well, Saturday we joined the flotilla of boats around "The Drop" to gather what we could ice down in a correct manner....
On the way back we joined Swell Rider for a little bottom fishing and Patrick got the boats first decent conger eel.

Yesterday we planned to bottom fish in a new area for us and put some lines out while locating a couple new wrecks. The hornets were back with hardly no boats around us, they are everywhere... attacking left and right! Had they eaten all the babies around???

Joined Swell Rider again who was fishing the area as we looked for some bottom Critters. No luck for us on the grouper a part from a couple shorts and same on the ARS. Did find 3 sea bass with tags and Advil size AJ's for when the boys got frustrated!!!
A little slide show for the boys to remember when the Mahi's move on towards the Azores!

As always .... great pics and great report Jacques! I am sad to have missed such a great weekend on the water.

You guys got a real mixed bag this weekend! What is the fish that Austin is holding in the first frame of the slide show?

Hey Jaques, was a fun ride out Sat EH? Was well worth it though, the gaffers were jumping in the boat. Great report and pics.

Chris, we were off to a nervous start with 3 albies... This one ended up as bait!
Lee, that was a tag from the Sneads Ferry program. Amazed to get 3!
Rick, two days of pounding on that ride out and I may need a 2 week break... Yes, I'm getting old!!!
Ken, Enjoyed fishing next to you we'll have to buddy up more often. I'm sure everyone hopes those Mahi's stick around for a few more weeks. That must be one of the worlds hot spots right now!!!
Marty, I hope you guys get some nice big Blue Mamas that eat those mahi's just as fast as you put them in the box... This is THE WEEK!
I'll work on getting Austin to smile next time
