Had an excuse this weekend to go to the coast and pickup up pine cones from Hanna and mow some grass...
Nice weather saturday with a slight west wind and we ran offshore toward the BR and put lines in just before the 90 Ft drop. The boys all have their favorite colors and put out a rainbow spread!
Before the last line was in the first of a serie of bailers came in then a good pair finally found my favorite color!
We couldn't get a wahoo bite and the boys wanted some action.
I got this week 4 Bluewater Jigs from Sea Draggin on SFC through www.bluewaterjigs.com and we had to try them out...
Within less that 4 minutes we had two cut offs by some mean cudas, it was time to knock some of them out!
Almost everything coming up was chomped by these critters and we knew we'd not stay long on this spot!
The boys each got one and it was time to move on!
Put back into trawl heading for the shelf and had the visit of a more favorable toothy critter...
As usual with kids when you don't get a bite it's time for some action before you loose peace in a confined space so we marked some fish and went to the bottom. We started off with several of these small pretty fish (what are they??) but that's not what we were looking for!
The new "Magic Lure" hooked a good fish on the bottom and during the first seconds Patrick thought he finally had the perfect grouper.... It happened to be an Almaco and there were lots of them! Not what you want to find in 280 Ft of water...
Mark on his trigger fish rig brought up the first Red.
Jacky got the first trumpet since we left West Africa. He and Patrick used to sit on a windsurfer in front of the house and would catch loads of these things, so that brought back some good memories!
The trio had some fun and made me stay at the wheel to control the drift. Marc's favorites were the pinkies...
We started heading back and the planner rod took off big time! Missed a Pig of a Wahoo that somehow came loose close to the boat because of Dad's fault. "You slowed down too much"!!!!
Changed the subject by going down again with the "Magic Lure"...
Aj's are a good fish to keep kids quiet, Patrick could complain to the donkeys!
After a few of those he handed the rod to Jacky the Jigmaster who got some better fish! That is the only jig that made it home we may need to frame it!
These jumbo Bliners made us pull the bait out and with the moon about to come out these babies were on fire! But so were the cudas
Marc prefers this type of fishing and got several doubles
It's a pity it was time to leave but maybe for the next full moon we'll do the overnighter...
Came back through Cape Lookout with the rising moon. A pity the picture isn't good but it was mighty pretty out there.
13 hours out at sea just with the 3 boys, no pressure to catch fish and all pleasure even though they don't like to miss fish!
MM
What a day MM. Thanks for the awesome report. Hate it when the cudas and sharks eat up the meat. Looks like the boys had a ball, thats what it's all about man rock on bro!
