    Merry Marlin fishing report 04-10&11-10

Well this spring break the boys had big expectations with all the reports out of Hatteras, OI and Wilmington but they didn't get to do much... As the weather forecast for this weekend came out, they wanted to do an overnighter and they managed to convince the ole man....
We took off Saturday at noon and pointed her to the BR. As we arrived in the zone the water was greenish and cold and only 4 boats were in the area pointed north at 2.00....
We put in a couple hours of trolling as 3 dozen balyhoo were rigged and needed to be washed! Not a bite. With no current we switched to the bottom. This weekend being all about doing something different we went deep (for us) in around 450Ft. Good surprise we quickly got some good fish!

We don't often see lesser AJ's so we had to take a picture!
I was thinking, in bluewater that nice bait would swim pretty well with a big circle!

The fish were hungry and we started getting a good variety! Marc has started getting good at reeling from the deep even on the Alamcos!

Went in more shallow to find some triggers and released safely yellow edges and scamps after proper venting.

Sharks were becoming a nuisance so we decided to go and find a place to camp!

After a couple tries Jack found us some beeliners and after supper we went to work at sunset! The bite turned on and a limit was reached a little after dark. Mark wasn't happy and didn't understand that part of having a very healthy fishery means having good quantities of sharks!!! There was some pretty big ones...

Got a couple other kinds of fish and had lots of cigars come to the light so the person who stayed up made bait.

We took turns watching for container ships as we counted 14 overnight.... Next time we'll camp elsewhere!!

After a not to comfy night we put lines just before sunrise in around 100 fathoms. Moved all the way to 200 and had greenish 68F water. We headed back North with 1 missed bite and had plenty of sad baits that wouldn't go to battle!!!

Around the shelf the boys wanted more bottom. The bite was good again with no tide and they got to play and release properly some nice fishies...

Austin wanted food and got his keepers finishing our limit of bluelines...

A little more shallow and the big triggers were in full force again!

As we were ready to leave around 11.00, 2 moon fish showed up next to the boat, always a fun sight...

In less that 24 hours we brought to the boat 28 species of fish!!! Got to Love this overfished NC......
Another beautiful weekend to be on the water but I think I'll enjoy my bed tonight!

You just outdid yourself there Jacques! Nice snowy (I know he will eat good!), a beautiful broomtail and snapper. I'm sure the boys are anxious to get back out and catch a few of them come May 1! Good to see you found some bluelines as well. Thanks as always for the great pictures and story!

Jacques - I was just watching "LIFE" on the Discovery Channel and I should've been reading your report. 28 Species? Overnighter on the Parker? Spending spring break with your boys? - That's the Life! Great report -Merry Marlin Crew posts another adventure in the Captain's Log.

That is a heck of an overnighter! Way to make it up at the end of the break before heading back. Thanks for the great photos.
