Merry Marlin Anniversary W.E. Report
Well, I guess I'm getting old as this was our 20th Anniversary weekend... Time flies by so never loose a moment to put lines in the water!
Left not to early saturday as my bride came in @ 2.00am so she still was holding her pillow and cup of coffee as we cleared Cape Lookout
stopped around our usual spot for bait and was quite surprised to catch baby albies which made so fine skipping baits
Ran to 90Ft drop on a beautiful ocean and put lines in. It wasn't long before we had a few mahi's with only one who tasted the gaff... The bride was off to a good start!!!
That fish had mahi for breakfast but could pass on a baby albie
Our goal for the day was to get some pretty bottom dwellers at the shelf and with a slick calm day it seemed promising!
Unfortunately the current was pretty strong and our drifts were at 4 mph!!!
Landed some pretty nice triggers and a few other fish but no real groupers the Wilmington crowd make us dream of!!!!
We saw some nice Bigeyes busting on the surface and put back in trawl but those smart buggers would not bite. The boys wanted to go back out there at night and if there wasn't that current it may have been a smart idea...
We headed back and let the kids play with some AJ and checked if Wendy could still hold onto that rod!!! We enjoyed her style and she handled a few...
Sunday we stayed closer to shore on the east side and the lady got to try the gags
Austin saw spanish and started casting at them and making some cudas happy as they chopped his fish in a spectacular way.
Menhaden wasn't the only bait of choice today Jacky had the miracle jig that caught 5 sharks, 6AJ's, bliners, bass, a piece of wreck, a wrasse,grouper, and a missed cobia which got off as I waited for better gaffing presentation. He still has forgiven me!!!!
We spent the afternoon swimming at the Cape, picking shells, catching bait and boat watching with one of our favorite ones ....
Maybe not the typical exotic anniversary but a nice relaxing weekend and we'll have some fresh fish for supper!

Fresh fish for supper is right! What a nice report and catch! Good to see that you boys gave mom a little break from work and let her enjoy the sea that, as I understand it, was her first love.

Man what a way to spend an anniversary. Congratulations to you and your wife on your 20th. Fantastic report and pics MM. I hope you get to celebrate every other one the same way. Just keep sharing it with us. Great stuff.
