It had been 3 weeks that Patrick had his knee surgery and it was time for some real therapy to get those new ligaments workin'...
He really wanted a wahoo trip and with those good reports we were ready to see some stripes! Got just past the 90 and stopped on a break. Quickly had our first bites, 3 gaffers and 3 slingers in the boat. Then finally a decent fish hit the planner. A little before gaffing he got off. If someone was at the wheel it probably wouldn't have happened. It hit a nice head tied by Ponce... Thanks Jeff!
Being just two on the boat and tired of shagging grass we headed to deeper water. No other bite, it was time to have some fun!
We had met up with Ponce and dropped some baits. The bite was slow but a good variety of 13 species came up. It's always great getting a surprise of what took the bait...
This jumbo was 18 inches!
As you can see in this old picture, having this boy not want to smile ain't something new!
Got the boat's first Speckled Hind, after usually getting the Rock and Red hinds.
Got 3 other types of groupers, scamp, yellowedge and this decent yellowmouth.
Gotta Love the look of a nice golden eye Silky. He should taste good tonight!
On the way back we got a few beeliners that suspended in half water. These got to watch their last rising moon from a cooler!
Saturday night Jacky showed up and wanted to try a new Plasma Rod and a Saltiga he just bought. And his age I was bottom fishing with a handline........
We caught some bait and got another specie for the MM. A very special Groupa delight!
Have always been fascinated by the fact that these eels cross the Atlantic to the Sargasm sea to breed and the babies then head back to Europe!
Boat went as far east as it has ever been & the boys worked a limit of Beeliners in short order.
It was then time for 6 buckets of triggers. Interesting fashion statement for the guy from UNCW!!! His excuse was that he has to keep his clothes clean.....
Jacky didn't find any big fish to try out his new rod and reel but I did think a few seconds I had the monster Gag when I hooked a nice shark! Next time we'll have to go for a few Fall Reef Donkeys...
No wahoo for us but just a good relaxing weekend with the kids.
MM
