Merry Marlin 05-06/09 fishing report

A little late a doing a report but as usual life is just too busy!
Patrick had soccer buddy Joe come down with us for the first time. The weather man was predicting OK weather we headed offshore. A couple miles inshore of the 90 we put in as there was tons of fliers and we were sure something good was going to happen. E - NE wind was a "little" above expectation and the only fish willing to bite were albies. Water was a beautiful color but a little rough for Joe's taste....
Instead of going on to the shelf on the targeted wahoo we went on the bottom to make sure our guest would see some action and not want to swim home!!!
jigs went down and the first pompano came up. Sharks and Cudas were hungry too and after 6 jigs got cut off it was time to switch to a cheaper bait technique. Joe although he wasn't feeling too good got the the boat his first AP and Almaco.

It was a pompano day and they came up nicely some being chopped by certainly good sized sharks...

Got a call from Ponce who was in the area but the ocean was only getting rougher and the current was bad so we didn't get to play much together! Check this white water around them...

Good to meet you from far on the water, looking forward to seeing you in better conditions next time.

Even Patrick wouldn't stand on the Box... we just figured out this morning as he went to Duke Sports Medecine that he has had a broken leg for 3 weeks. Sorry my boy but I hope Coach will be proud of how tough you are!!! Must be the AJ's...!

Our too small Parker box was getting full and we hadn't taken much ice as our Hoshizaki was tired and needs a tune up after a warm summer!

Wouldn't these flat fish make a good shape for the next hot jig!

It was time to point north and with this weather we weren't going to run so we put lines back in and I went to bed!
Once in a while I'd hear fish on! no drag running it was another albie!

Man would it feel good to have a bigger ride today!

Made it to some very baity bottom a couple miles south of the 14. Joe's spirits skyrocketed... Double on jumbo beeliners!

With the new limits NMFS makes it easier to go home earlier!

A few Spanish were around but so were the Cudas and you don't mess with the predators fish...

The next one was bait for Joe's Cuda...

Had to do a bit of damage on the triggers before heading home....

A little ice left to put the B's to bed...

Sorry Joe we put you through this rough day and I must admit that you sure have a great attitude. You're a good sport!
Sunday afternoon with a small craft advisory the MM crew decided to give the Drums a visit in Cedar Island. It was a First for us and Mission Accomplished.
I'll do a post later, the Boss is putting me to work!

Another great report from the Merry Marlin crew. You guys seem to be able to put fish in the boat no matter what the condidtions.

It was very nice talking to you out there, and thanks again for hanging around while we got our problem solved.

We had the opposite problem as you we had plenty of ice and no fish. I was going to have you guys come over for some ice, but with the conditions I thought we would be asking for trouble with the boats that close together.

Nice report and pictures.

Looks like a great intro for Joe. He couldn't have asked for a better crew to show him the ropes. Nice APs.

Great report Jacques. It was too nasty for us to go out too far on Saturday. So what time tomorrow can I pick up my african Pompano? Got to head to the hill for some CE classes tomorrow.
