Day 2, Labor Weekend

Well Sunday the wind was honkin and the boys were begging to go Drumming! The Merry Marlin had never targetted the specie so Dad let himself convinced and we decided to go to Cedar Island....
Jacky and I made a quick run mid afternoon in the sound for a scoop of bait!

To our surprise we came across a manatee! Wasn't going to bother her so this is the only bad picture... Water temp in the sound is 74 F an falling I guess she'll be heading south soon!

Hooked up the MM and we headed to Cedar Island. Got there and the sound was Nasty!!!! That's what you guys want to take me out in???? 3 foot breakers crushing the entrance!!! Jacky told me to take a chill pill and I put him down the ramp.
First time the MM went down a modern wildlife ramp,
Sweet! Ran up the beach some and as we found some bait We anchored up. 12 feet of water I like that!!!
Wind was east and it felt good having a the cabin. The Parker was a bit of an overkill for that area and fish but not in this weather. We saw only one other boat.
10 minutes and the first fish came! Our day was made for us beginners...

Well netted, good circle in the corner a fine release. We can say we're now learning how it's done!!!!

A few more minutes and Joe is on, Go around the front of the boat with Patrick's help and back on the other side straight for the net. Yeah that's a male!
Pretty work Soccer dudes! Go Northwood Chargers....

Next, Lucas is on! Tighten the drag, No nonsense we new at this game and we need it to the boat....
Up he comes for a nice sunset.

These little pogies are doing just alright, no tail on them but crabs and drummies likem...

Next Jacky picks the rod, this thing is pulling nicely but ain't no match for an AJ! Straight to the net. Pretty work!

Back to the water, see again in 10 years, go eat some more!

I bring one up then Patrick finishes the Dance with a big fat mama but I take a bad picture!

Well not bad for a first try, headed back for those bad waves, took my chill pill and let Jacky handle the landing....
Great ride back to Marshallberg as we crossed only 2 cars with those canals and no lights it sure reminded me of duck hunting drive in Africa.
Anyway a great evening with the boys and I can understand that some folks get addicted! My back would love that kind of fishing... NC sure is fortunate to have this fishery. Can't believe it took us so long to try it.

Amazing fish those pompanos, aren't they? Mirror finish, hard pulling and good eating! Congratulations on yet another fine catch Jacques and crew. Sporty or not the MM box filled up Saturday as usual. Love the iced beeliner shot, BTW.

Pretty impressive first old drum outing. Jacky already has the instincts of an old salt when it comes to finding fish and Patrick....well Patrick can catch all that Jacky finds, how about that!

Wonderful report. Thanks for bringing us the action.
