Marty, Good luck to you and your crew during the tournament.
In 1999 Atlantic beach, North Carolina I learned some of the most important lessons in tournament fishing with out even going fishing. I met a man that told me These three things about preparing for a tournament.
"The first step to winning a tournament starts long before the first day of fishing, you must have a positive mental attitude. Second, you must go expecting to win. Third you can accept angler error, but you Can not accept mechanical failure." WAHOONBOX
Those three things I think about and I remind myself every time I tie a knot, make a crimp, sharpen a hook, rig a bait, set a drag. It is the driving force that makes me go the extra step. I cant remember how many times I get in late from fishing and Im tired and we are going the next day. I have two dozen baits left from today and they look ok for the next but instead of going home I stay and put three dozen more fresh ones next to them in the cooler so now Im ready. The lay day, man I would like to relax alittle but nope cut and retie everything, check my wind ons, pull off a hundred feet of each reel, who knows what hit your line while you drug it around for thirty miles during that last day. Probley nothing but im going to check. I mean these are things that I think about and it these sayings that give me the drive to go and do it. It help lowering the stories about the one that got away and increases the amount of check you get. Those three things Marty taught me the first day of school in August 1999. Thanks buddy, I owe you.
