Marty that would be what the senegalese call a yaboye, its a lot like the Thread herring that you can catch here. We used to find acres of them on the surface but in the last few years stocks vanished as people started eating them.
When the bite was slow we used live bait. We used yaboyes but preferred Spanish sardines as they are more hardy baits.

The kid holding the yaboye is my brother, Patrick is as hardheaded as they get,but he catches the fish so he has to come.
