    Memorial Day Weekend Wrap Up

With the Holiday weekend upon us and great weather forecasted we made arrangements to slip out of work Thursday and pointed the truck, coolers and rods towards the coast. Our plan of attack was for the men to fish Friday, family day Saturday and hit the bluewater again Sunday. The wives and kids took up residence at the beach one day and the pool the others.

We broke the inlet around 5 Friday and pointed it down the beach, our plan was to start shallow and work offshore thru out the day. Ten miles into the run the seas kick up and stayed up it seemed like most of the remainder of the day. Make our numbers in 17 fathoms with 72 degree water and set them out. Doesn't take long and the first slinger of the day finds the fish box. Work the area over a little more and continued to pick at them

Keep working further offshore and come across some pretty water in 38 fathoms with a lot of life. More flyers than I can recall seeing in several years when the planer rod bounces and starts an impressive run. Done everything possible to loose this fish but somehow we managed to stick a gaff in it

As we are resetting lines her little brother decided he wanted to join her in the fish box

Worked back inshore and added a few more gaffers for the grill and left them chewing as we knew we would get them again Sunday

Iced the fish down as I wanted to weigh the wahoo the next morning plus we knew the boys would want to get in on the action

The boys were ready with their fishing shirts

Fish weighed in at 76 pounds

    Friday's dock shot

Sunday we had the same plan of attack start shallow and work offshore. Point her towards the same direction we left Friday and pull the throttles back in 15 fathoms on a nice weedline. Water was a little cold but we set them out anyway. Pick up one decent fish and Pick Pocket calls and mentions a major temperture change another 4 miles offshore. We continue to work offshore when the fish let us know we have arrived Three rods go down and two make it to the box. Plenty of fish in the area but not the size we were hoping for with most being slingers. Push off a little deeper hoping for some larger fish and a wahoo bite. Fish size did get better offshore but no wahoo bites for the day...pulled the plug early and enjoyed a 38 knott ride to the hill as we had 19 mahi to get cleaned, bagged and iced down for the ride home.

A big thanks to all of our milllitary, both past and present on this memorial day for allowing us to spend time doing what we all love to do
